Direct link to offer

  • Bank of America is currently offering an increased bonus on the Amtrak no annual fee card. You can get 20,000 bonus points and a $100 statement credit after $1,000 in spend within the first 90 days of account opening

Card Details

  • No annual fee
  • 10% rebate on onboard food & beverage purchases
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2x points on Amtrak purchases
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • Complimentary Companion Coupon,Ā One-Class Upgrade and a single-day ClubAcelaĀ®Ā pass for access to ClubAcela, Amtrak Metropolitan LoungeSMĀ or First class
  • 5% Amtrak Guest Rewards point rebate when you book your Amtrak redemption

Our Verdict

The annual fee card has offered 40,000 points + $100 statement credit in the past. That’s obviously a much better deal even though the $79 annual fee on that card is not waived the first year. I’d recommend waiting for an increased offer on that card to return. Because of that I won’t be adding this to our list of the best credit card bonuses. If you haveĀ any questions about Bank of America credit cards Iā€™d recommend reading this post first. You can learn how much Amtrak points are worth here.

Seems now the offer for the 20k card is showing a $79 annual fee.

Seems there has been no 40k offer since September of last 2019? Or did one appear this summer?

Go with AF card for better bonus then downgrade.

This was my plan exactly, following last summer’s 40k AGR sign-up bonus. Upon renewal, somewhat surprisingly, BOA didn’t offer a downgrade option to the no fee Platinum from the World Mastercard version, even after I requested one specifically. The only offer available was for a Cash Rewards card.

Question :
I applied and received a bonus 12 month ago for the Annual fee card . Will I also get a bonus if I now apply for the No annual fee card ?

Yes. BoA does not have bonus restrictions, only approval restrictions. If you’re approved, you’ll get the bonus.

The no-AF version does not come with the companion coupon, one-class upgrade, or ClubAcela day pass.

Like clockwork, the Amtrak elevated offer comes July/August for at least the third time in a row. Strong evidence for those interested to only apply this time of year, especially since the default offers are usually worse by half.

Last year was much better, same offer but double the points.

Lame. I applied for this card 2 weeks ago under the old offer.

Seems like they only offer an increased offer once a year, in the summer. If the pattern continues, I imagine weā€™ll have to wait until next summer for a better offer.
