Barclaycard Arrival Plus No Longer Available?

Update: Barclays has launched a new Premier credit card.

For some time the Barclaycard Arrival Plus has been unavailable, I’m unsure when links first stopped working but currently I can’t find any working links. Originally I thought this was some type of maintenance, but it’s now been at least a week if not two since the links stopped working. This isn’t the first time this has happened either, it also happened in 2016 and in 2015 as well. In the 2015 instance when the card was reintroduced, negative changes were made. I don’t think any changes happened in the 2016 instance, but I could be wrong. When questioned about this on the Barclaycard Travel Community, it’s clear the community manager doesn’t know what’s going on as they refer people to the Barclaycard ring card.

If/when the card does become available for sign up again, will we post an update.

Update: Apparently affiliate links were working until a day or two ago. They are now no longer working.

Don’t know how they could make any additional negative changes and still keep the card competitive. Hopefully its a higher sign up but doubtful.

Not sure I agree with you that it is competitive now. 😛

If I weren’t a churner this would be a good card to be the daily driver. 2.1 percent back plus you can earn more by posting travel stories.

You really have to spend A LOT to outweight the 0.1% difference from a no annual fee 2% card

I tried spending A LOT on this one, they shut me down after 1 year LOL. I was putting 9k daily on it…don’t ask me how I managed it 🙂 Maybe it’s all those fake refunded hotels I booked to unload the points.

NinjaX

how did you manage it?

Unless you spend abroad and get hit by 3% FTF on the no annual fee 2% card

Sarah
Sarah

Until I got the USAA Limitless I had a 1.5% CB card used exclusively for travel abroad. You’d have to spend over ~$20,000 abroad for it to make sense to pay the annual fee.

Ewejay
Ewejay

Exactly this Bob. The breakeven with a no-AF 2% card is 89k to justify the annual fee.
Heck, it loses out to a no-AF 1.5% card at less than 15k annual spend.
Get the sign-up bonus, use as a daily driver if you want, then clear out your points and close before the annual fee hits.

Like I said you can post travel stories to earn points. I posted more than the annual fee. What 2 percent card do you earn cash back for positing travel stories? Anyway I am a churner so I am going to cancel the card next month when the annual fee is due.

Chuck N

You can do that with the no fee arrival card too, and redeem your points at 1/4 of the redemption threshold.

Sarah
Sarah

No.. no it wouldn’t, it would be a terrible daily driver due to the AF.

I guess people can’t read. How many times did I say you can earn more than the annual fee by posting travel stories. Photos get you points. Up votes get you points.

who wants to waste time posting dumb fake stories? You end up doing below minimum wage work. Those hoops are precisely why other cards are better from almost everyone except someone like you or a heavy MSer.

Jim
Jim

Well, frogger does. Hasn’t quite grasped the overall picture of the value of time & money yet, apparently.

If posting stories for points is something you don’t mind or actually enjoy doing, then why not? Also have heard some people have success with getting AF waived on this card. My biggest problem with it is hitting the $100.00 spend threshold that similar cards don’t have.

Exactly, it’s not competitive as it is. If I weren’t a churner I’d put everything on a no-fee 2% cash back card- not this thing…

2.5% cash on the alliant visa for $59. It, the Arrival, isnt competitive anymore but people dont talk about the Alliant so much so they dont realize this card has been bad for a bit.

W
W

We’re talking the competitiveness of the Restricted 2.1% on an $89 fee. Not churning specifically. A no fee 2% is better until $89,000 in spend, and the 2.5% at $59 is $30 better to begin with and then runs away with it.
The deposit relationship is an issue, but the CSR is a good card 5/24 be damned. The product is the topic, not the steps to getting it.

Let’s not forget, A+ isn’t REALLY 2.1%. You have to jump through a bunch of hoops to even redeem the points, and then always have left overs unless you’re doing heavy MS and crafty with your redemptions. They built their profit model on confusion and breakage….and I’m willing to bet fewer people are falling for it now.

frogger
frogger

There is no jumping through hoops. You pick any travel item and you redeem points against it.

Mike L

The travel item needs to be at least $100+, so it’s not any travel.

No more than 6 days of being unavailable. My wife applied last Saturday, Mar 17.

My wife applied for this card on Wednesday and was approved. I looked for the link we used and it no longer is available.

I don’t see how the card can be profitable. I got 560 dollars meeting the sign up bonus. Then I got another 100 posting on their travel website and haven’t used the card since. Seems this and the Venture got more selective about approving as both cards are just giving away 500 dollars and are both 2 percent cash back cards or in Barclay’s case 2.1 percent back.

Aldo
Aldo

Unfamiliar with the $100 for posting on their travel website; was that a limited time frame it was offered, or available now?

frogger
frogger

You can make more than 100 dollars if you want. Just post a ton of travel stories. The sky is the limit.

Brad
Brad

You can write 100 stories per month. Each story with a picture is a minimum of $1.50, but I average about $2.70 per story. There’s a 10% redemption bonus, too. If you travel a lot, it’s really easy to write them. They take about 10 minutes.

I’ve applied 3 times for this card over the past three years and they’ve denied the app three times so meh.

They typically reject you despite their shitty rewards and their direct inquires for every application

I have this card, and in the most recent statement they sent me, there was a notice saying that they are rebranding from Barclaycard to Barclays. I wonder if this rebranding has anything to do with the card being unavailable.

Sa

Ha! Didn’t they threat legal action to someone who was calling them Barclays instead of Barclaycard on their blog?

Sarah
Sarah

Yes, I remember that story! Forgot which blogger it was though…

Andrew

Barclay cards are always disappearing and reappearing on their site. I don’t think they know or care what they are doing at that bank. They don’t seem very interested in approving many people, either.

Ivan X

@Andrey you can also get a no-AF card that has no FTF, like the Barclay Uber, or First Tech FCU Choice, or others. With the Uber, It’ll cost you 1% in opportunity cost for some things, but you’ll probably more than make it up in hotel/dining/airfare which return 3% or 4%.

Hello Everyone, Just wanted to update this thread with the latest information. We have currently discontinued this offer so we can test and evaluate different offers to determine which is the most valuable to consumers. Nothing will change for cardmembers who already have the Barclaycard Arrival Plus Mastercard. Current Arrival Plus cardmembers should continue using their card with confidence.

Consider allowing transfers to Jetblue and wyndham

That would be too rich. They’ll discontinue such a program within a month. I could MS myself months worth of free flights and stays in a matter of a few weeks.

Could it be that Barclays is getting to re-launch it’s United States credit card portfolio on April 1, 2018?

If you look at the current list of available cards, none of them are a Barclaycard, other than Ring, and are all co-brand cards.

https://cards.barclaycardus.com/cards.list.html

Again, I expect I an announcement on April 1, 2018 as they re-brand from Barclaycard to just “Barclays” in the United States. My question – are they launching new Barclays-branded cards on that date – or is it just a BIG April Fool’s joke?

Let’s see if Barclay will spill the beans early…

Got AF refunded after PC to Rewards MC, wherein it had offer for a $50 stmt credit with a min spend of $1k/mo for 3 months, and 1k pt for making 1st purchase

AF

Not a great card according to the reviews, if you look at the comments on credit Karma they expect you to be a screw up if you have this card.

dan

the rewards card? even if so, PCd to avoid the AF, keep the pts & same time keep the acct history

Annoying company , they wouldn’t waive AF after I used it for a year of real spend and spent $65k . Dropped them like it was hawt. Have the no AF as a sock drawer card now, haha Barclay sucks
