Our Verdict

We’ve seen recently 70k and 75k offers, though those did have the $99 annual fee whereas this offer has the first year $99 fee waived. A lot of people would prefer to pay the fee and get 20,000 more miles, but given that the card is rumored to go away, this might be a easy signup deal for someone who is not 5/24 sensitive. It’s sweet that the offer has no spend requirement.

This is also the best offer on a card with no minimum spend. Read through these things you should know about Barclays credit cards. We’ve added this to our List of Best Current Credit Card Signup Bonuses.

They’re still handing these out like Halloween candy.

I got the ‘application is being reviewed’ message, probably because I have the red and silver cards already (>2 years since the last bonus though). Periodically I try to product change the red to the no-fee white Aviator but they’ve never allowed this. Coincidentally an offer to upgrade the existing red to silver popped up shortly after this application, but since a second silver wouldn’t have the LP bonuses I’m not sure what the point of the second card and annual fee would be.

I got this info for my application “Unfortunately, we are not able to provide you with an immediate decision on the application you just submitted. Your application requires further review, which may take up to 10 days“, what should I do next?

“Your application is being reviewed” is that a good or bad thing?

Applied and got instant approved just 1 day before the new offer. Sent them a message in the website to ask for honoring the new offer but got denied. Oh well.

“Thank you for your recent application for the AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Credit Card. We have reviewed your application and determined that we are unable to approve you for a AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Credit Card account for the following reason(s):

– Number of recently opened accounts is too high
– The number of bankcards opened within the last 24 months”

Maybe a free for all before it’s discontinued

The conversion date to Citi is imminent- this is an easy approval, since there’s little risk to Barclays as they’re going to sell the portfolio, including the crap accounts to citi. Gofer it.
