[Expired] Barron’s: Up To 1,300 Miles With $1 Subscription

Deal is no longer available

The Offer

Check all offers

  • Barron’s is running a special promotion to get an 8-week subscription for just $1.
  • You can also go through a shopping portal and get one of the following:
    • 1,300 American Airlines miles
    • 1,000/650 United miles (requires Chase co-branded card for higher rates)
    • 950 Alaska miles
    • 950 Southwest
    • 1,000 BarclayCard RewardBoost points

The Fine Print

  • Only eligible on first month for pay by month subscriptions. Subscription must be active for at least 45 days. Eligible on one (1) subscription per loyalty account number.

Our Verdict

We just posted about a similar deal for WSJ. Remember you need to keep the account active for 45 days and if you don’t cancel before the two month trial is up you’ll be automatically enrolled into a regular subscription. So just set a remainder to cancel shortly after the 45 day period.

This has worked for me three times previously with AA under the same account (and Barron’s login).

I tried with the same Barron’s login and was denied points.

I’m only showing 650 miles when I click United, like 1000 🙁

The 1000 miles offer is for those that have a united credit card.

How hard is this to cancel?

WSJ was a little annoying so i assume this will be similar. Just say no a few times when you call in and all good

I know the previous time years ago I had to annoyingly call in and deal with a rep trying to convince me to continue, but I believe with that new subscription law a that went into effect, I would expect to be able to cancel online.

That subscription law is only in California — they can use an online cancel form, but no one else can

If you don’t live in CA, it seems like you could still enroll in a digital subscription with some CA address. Then you’d get an easy cancellation. Is that right?

Dow Jones (& Murdoch owns it) is quite strict in auto-billing you with the $20/mo subscription fee….. If you forget, they’ll cancel for the month following — and keep the $20. (even for just a few days past the 2 month window close. Eventually a supervisor grudgingly refunded me $7….. after I mentioned the California law and my hope to see it spread nationwide) a real hassle, dealing with Murdoch-media.

So to all who go for this, follow DoC’s advice and be sure to cancel b4 the two month is up.

It’s a 3-minute phone call in my experience: they try to convince you to keep it, but say no a few times. And make sure you get email confirmation it’s been cancelled, one time mine wasn’t until I called again a week later

I used my United Chase credit card last time for this deal (a few months ago). Is it a good idea to use a different credit card this time?

To avoid cancellation hassle, why not use a “disappearing” card number for the payment, e.g, VAN, prepaid card with small balance?

Frank

Has anyone successfully churned this (i.e. same portal multiple times)?

Keep in mind that Barron’s is very difficult to cancel, possibly worse than a gym membership. It must be done by phone. This offer works best when one can pay with with a VAN or a prepaid number having $1 spend limit.

Anyone know if it’s possible to sign up for this deal on multiple mileage accounts for the same person (i.e. United, then American)? I’m guessing you’d just need to use a different email address with Barron’s for each mileage account?
