Better Citi American Airlines Offers – Don’t Trust The Affiliate Links

Today the sign up bonus Citi offers on the American Airlines cards changed for those with affiliate links. This has led to lots of blogs promoting inferior offers that pay them a commission. We always present the best possible offers to our readers. Your best option is the following:

Note that both of the above offers require asking for a match. It seems that matching is still working, but they don’t actually reply anymore and the extra 20k miles just post after your statement generates. If you don’t feel comfortable matching then your best offers are as follows:

The sign up bonuses when using an affiliate link are 60,000 miles for the personal and 70,000 miles on the business card. In all honesty generally when this happens the better links disappear after a few days, I suspect this is because sites with affiliate links complain about the better offers being available but I don’t have any evidence of that. Either way support sites that put your best interests first.

sites that post inferior affiliate links are not worth reading content from. Please, dont support these sites. All you need for this hobby is DOC and the occasional reddit churning.

I only read those sites for their airline deals and occasional reviews about hotels/travel packages. I laugh at their credit card articles. The day DOC starts writing about traveling I will leave those sites entirely!

I’m sure the hotel/travel package reviews are sponsored as well.

I also recommend depositaccounts.com if you like rate-chasing savings/CDs. 🙂

Well now it looks like even Delta limited time offers weren’t that limited after all. It looks like they’re still available thru referral. https://travelupdate.boardingarea.com/75000-delta-sky-miles-offers-still-available/

I am seeing public 40k miles + $250 SC for biz & personal.

So if I got the tiered 50k after $3k in spend with another 10k after a total of $6k spend, is there something that I could try to match to?

Out of curiosity, I wonder if one is eligible to receive the offer on the business card a 2nd time if the application is done with EIN rather than SSN. I currently have the business card, opened in Oct/Nov 2018 and applied as a “business” with my SSN for the 70K offer. Wondering if I can repeat with this 75K offer by using EIN

Citi’s website says this about the offer, not sure how to interpret given the SSN vs EIN dilemma “This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® card. Bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 24 months.”

Affiliate links actually showing 65k with 4k spend. You can match that to 75k. Which isn’t too bad.

Can matching be done via secure message?

Lynn

Not anymore. use chat feature

Rhea

Is chat feature successful and available for both business and personal versions? I do not have any of these 2 so do not know about chat/Secure message options if available or not……….Thanks

You’ll see chat feature on right side when you go online into account. it works for personal, they just say they’ll send on and then you get confirmation letter in mail. Not sure about business. There’s info on flyertalk.

Why not add this card to your list of best cc?

what are considered eligible American airline purchases for the $200 credit? Their gift cards? Thanks!

Yes. Confirmed elsewhere in thread.

Im having difficulty understanding what you all mean by “requesting a matching offer via chat”. So I would have to apply for the card and then ask a Citi rep to match to a higher offer from another creditor? Probably a dumb question, and I’ve had a long day at work so my brain is fried…

The idea is more this:
Apply for 40k + $250 offer. Then go to chat and request a match from 40k miles to 60k miles (which is another AA public offer). The end result being you get 60k miles + $250.

There is no other creditor in this case. You’re basically just combining the AA offers to get the best of both worlds.

Edit: just making it a little more clear.

What if you are in the 60/no credit personal offer ? Can you ask to be matched to 60k + $250 credit ?

I see there is a 65K offer (no credit) too. But it requires spending$4000 over 4 months. Can I ask to be matched to that ? I’m currently about one month in to the 60K offer — would they exend my spend period from 3 months to 4 months too ?

If you do 60k points/3k spend you can request 15k miles only, since 75k is the max available miles across all offers.

You can request a match of up to 20k, up to 75k between match and offer.

Your spend requirements don’t typically change when matching, they just credit the missing miles.

The math in your last paragraph does not add up. 40+20 match=60k+credits.

I think it’s important to note the statement credit is “$250 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases in the first 12 months of account opening.” It’s not a blanket $250 credit.

The T&C say, in part:
“Eligible American Airlines purchases are items billed by American Airlines as merchant of record booked through American Airlines channels (AA.com, American Airlines reservations, and American Airlines airport and city ticket counters). Products or services that do not qualify are car rentals and hotel reservations (except taxes and charges paid when redeeming miles for car/hotel), purchase of elite status boost or renewal and AA Cargo℠ products and services.”

Sounds like gift cards work – they come from giftcards.aa.com, and aren’t any of the exclusions? What do people think?

Following cuz I would like to know too 🙂

Ya this is an important fact. Just writing “Statement Credit” without the caveat that It is for AA purchases, is incredibly misleading.

This is one of the few blogs left that still has integrity and cares about their readers. So many other blogs have “sold out” and no longer have their readers’ best interests. Thank you so much for all you do!

Anyone on the Citi blacklist have any luck getting off? Been on it for about two years due to churning. Have tried applying for a couple cards since then, and Citi pulls my credit before denying me because of the blacklist which is pretty annoying.

How did you get on the blacklist?

I’ve never heard of Citi blacklisting anyone for churning. What did you do?

Are these the same links that you would get if you would do a dummy booking? the statement credit is usually there when you are about to pay for the flight.
