Citi American Airlines 40,000 Miles Business Offer + $250 Statement Credit (Match To 60,000 + $250 Statement Credit)

Increased to $250 again

Update 2/7/19: Statement credit reduced to $200.

Update 11/16/18: Statement credit increased from $200 to $250. It’s still not immediately clear how easy matching will be with the removal of secured messaging with Citi. Hat tip to reader Tony

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • CitiBusiness American Airlines Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard is offering 40,000 American Airlines miles after you spend $2,000 within the first three months. Plus new card members also receive up to a $250 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases within the first 12 months of account opening.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $99 is waived the first year
  • Contains one American Airlines bonus per 24 month language

Our Verdict

Same as the offer on the personal card. The real deal here is Citi lets you match to higher mile bonuses and keep the statement credit. You can get up to 20,000 mile matched, so by asking for a match you’d get 60,000 miles + $250 statement credit. Not as good as the previous 50,000 miles + $200 deal that could be matched to 70,000 miles + $200. Because of that we won’t be adding it to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

Before applying or asking basic questions in the comments make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi cards here. Also keep in mind this offer contains the following language:

  • This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® card. Statement credit and bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 24 months

We discuss this in more detail here.

This is the new link, in case anyone is looking for it. The one currently listed on this article is not valid.

DP:
Applied for the 40k + $250 SC Biz card. Asked to match to 60k via chat.
Was told to take screenshot of better offer and email it to citiAAL at citi.com

Can we please clarify the statement credit with some DPs?

I’m under the impression it’s only applicable to AA flights, or possibly AA gift cards. Is there anything else it can be used for?

Writing Statement Credit is a bit misleading. It’s Credit for AA purchases, not Credit, in general. If not making any AA purchases, then doesn’t really apply.

How long does it normally take for the bonus to post? I hit min spend on (for the 40K $2k/3 mth) April 5th. Haven’t seen anything yet.

Thanks!

Does buying a flight without points trigger the statement credit?

For anyone who applied, did it display the 40,000 + $250 offer in the top right corner of the application page? I applied and afterward noticed that it only said “Earn AAdvantage® miles on business purchases”. I’m hoping that doesn’t mean the offer isn’t attached.

DP on the 40k $250 credit to 60k $250 credit match for the 70k offer… just called in and requested match on the miles, they suggested they’d void the current offer and sign the card up for the new 70k offer without $250 credit.

I haven’t actually received the card yet (signed up a few days ago), so will wait until I get the card and call back to see if a new agent will give the 20k match.

William Charles ..I used one of your links as usual and I never had problems. This time Citi does not want post bonus miles claiming that. I had personal Citi Diamond closed beck in 2018.
This is my first business Citi AA. Do you know if the rules changed.

Thanks for any advice will be helpful..
