Citi American Airlines 40,000 Miles Business Offer + $250 Statement Credit (Match To 60,000 + $250 Statement Credit)

Update 11/16/18: Statement credit increased from $200 to $250. It’s still not immediately clear how easy matching will be with the removal of secured messaging with Citi. Hat tip to reader Tony

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • CitiBusiness American Airlines Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard is offering 40,000 American Airlines miles after you spend $2,000 within the first three months. Plus new card members also receive up to a $250 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases within the first 12 months of account opening.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $99 is waived the first year
  • Contains one American Airlines bonus per 24 month language

Our Verdict

Same as the offer on the personal card. The real deal here is Citi lets you match to higher mile bonuses and keep the statement credit. You can get up to 20,000 mile matched, so by asking for a match you’d get 60,000 miles + $250 statement credit. Not as good as the previous 50,000 miles + $200 deal that could be matched to 70,000 miles + $200. Because of that we won’t be adding it to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

Before applying or asking basic questions in the comments make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi cards here. Also keep in mind this offer contains the following language:

  • This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® card. Statement credit and bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 24 months

We discuss this in more detail here.

I literally just got off the phone with CITI requesting a retention offer for this card (got the 70K match thanks to DoC). Absolutely no offers at all. In a holding pattern until the fee actually bills but not overly optimistic, got good use this year of the 10% miles back and bag fee waiver.

I didn’t think the business card got the 10% back on miles?

I didn’t get it, at any rate.

2.5 years of CC and/or credit history. Worth a shot to apply?

Might be too soon.

5 years u need for aa biz

I don’t believe that’s correct. I was approved with a much shorter credit history.

No. There’s DPs of getting it under 5 years.

Are they strict with approving if you never have a business card before?

Citi isn’t too bad in my experience. I’ve received instant approvals for my “businesses”. Make sure you have 5 years of credit history, or close to it.

On my application I listed business income as zero, and at the time I had about a three year credit history. I was approved instantly.

Does Citi match the statement credit offer? For example, if I applied for a Citi AA card with a 50,000 miles offer, can I match for the extra $200 AA credit? Thanks.

I’m pretty sure you can only match for points, not statement credit.

Just a note: the 70k/$4k biz (and 40k/$2k w/ 50k/$6k option on the personal) are still available on the homepage, in case that floats your boat.

Where’s the 60k offer to match to?

Same question – haven’t seen an answer.

Yeah, this is a good question. I think I’m so used to mentally adding ~20k to these offers that this didn’t even cross my mind.

Can anyone verify they applied for this offer and got it matched to 60k even if there isn’t a public 60k biz offer?

Anyone Matched The Offer? Not Sure what the 60K Match offer that is being referred to?

Do you just sm and ask you want an additional 20K in points? Don’t see any live 60K Business offer.

Thanks for the reply! Anyone tried this recently with this offer?

24 month restriction on the personal/business versions of AAdvantage are separate?

Would Buying Gift Cards Count for the $200 Credit?

Does anybody know if I signed up for this 40,000 offer and mention I saw a 75,000 offer, what will the agent say? I remember people say the maximum match is 20,000 mile difference. Will asking for more get a direct decline or they will still match 20,000 and politely say 20,000 is the maximum they can do? Thank you very much!

Anyone Know?

Give it a go, respond with DPs. The loophole has been around for awhile now. There are data points around which show max 20k compensation. If you nail 35k compensation, hats off to you.

William & Team, thank you for everything you guys do. Your efforts in putting all the promotions together and building this forum are very much appreciated!

I’m confused on which offer you ask to be matched on? The 70k one with no statement credit?

Defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?

has anyone bought the egift card for the $200 sc recently

i thought asking for match via online is not an option anymore…so how does one get the match?

I have the same question. I’m thinking about emailing them, that way there’s a paper trail

I also want to know… There is no way to chat with them or send a secure message. Should I call?

Just approved. I have a mailer for the 60k offer, should I call or email customer service to try for the match?

Applied tonight. New business. 0 years of age and $0 business income. Got instantly approved for $15,120.

I got the Citi AAdvantage Platinum personal card’s welcome offer last year, so less than 24 months. Can I still get bonus for this business card? Thanks.
