We typically have success avoiding cash advance charges by lowering the cash advance limit with the issuer down to zero, see our post How To Avoid Cash Advance Fees.
However, reader Gadget – Bank Bonus Geek reports some disturbing news where Barclaycard charged his card a cash advance charge for a bank account funding charge despite the $0 cash advance limit. Another reader reports the same. Typically these should have resulted in the bank simply declining the charge and not allowing it to process.
Hopefully they’ll reverse it upon request, but worth knowing about this possible issue with Barclays. Let us know in the comments if you’ve had such a thing with Barclays or any other bank.
