BMO Harris Extending Minimum Spend Period From 3 Months To 6 Months

Update 6/9/20: BMO has clarified that: ‘this is available to new customers from January, February and March 2020 who signed up for a new card without knowing that COVID-19 was going to impact our economy’

BMO Harris has sent out an e-mail to some cardholders that have signed up for a credit card recently informing them that they now have six months to meet the minimum spend requirements, instead of the standard three months. Application pages still state the three month spend period, so I assume this is only for current credit card holders and it’s unclear if this extension is available to everybody or only selected cardholders. Both Chase & American Express have extended minimum spend periods to six month.

Good afternoon Stefan, my name is Adam Levy and I am the BMO Harris Rewards Loyalty Program Manager. Thank you for your business and sorry that you did not receive the email notification of the hardship offer. This offer is valid for all new cardholders from January, February or March of 2020 which includes you. If you meet the spend threshold for the Introductory Bonus in the first three months, you should receive your Introduction Bonus by the end of July. If you need additional time based on the impacts of COVID-19 and meet the threshold within six months, you would receive the Introduction Bonus before the end of the eighth month. You can contact our Reward Redemption Center at (800) 610-8987 with any additional BMO Harris Rewards questions or to explore great reward redemption options. Thank you again for your business. Best wishes, Adam

Adam, following up on a different issue. November 2020 you all made a no-notice devaluation of your business rewards program that cost me $335 in the reward I was saving up for (66,500 points for a $1,000 statement credit). Suddenly points were only worth 1 cent a point. At the time your website hadn’t been updated and indeed wasn’t updated a month later, though now in February 2021 has finally been updated. During all this, no notice was given to cardmembers. At the time I filed a complaint with your rewards center and I got a voicemail in return from an Andrew saying you reserve the right to make changes without notice and were giving me 5,000 points because of the inconvenience. I am still out $285 and will be closing this account and moving my business checking unless this can be resolved. Terrible way to treat all your business account holders.

I’m pretty sure this blog is not the source of your unhappiness, so could you find another outlet for your trolling?

What are you talking about. 6 months is positive development. Stop projecting.
