  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

No Monthly Fee

The dividend business checking does not have any monthly fee to worry about.

Membership Enrollment $10

If you enroll with provident then you must pay a $10 membership enrollment fee. Although apparently it’s possible to get this waived if you apply online.

provident credit union

Early Account Termination Fee $0

None of the provident checking accounts come with an early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

I’m reposting because this account no longer has any monthly fee to worry about (previously it required a deposit of $15,000). Because of that change it’s now definitely worth doing (thanks to reader Lrdx for pointing this out) I’m going to add this to our list of the best business checking bonuses. In addition they also have a $150 bonus for personal accounts with a 2.01% APY account.

Just an FYI, I applied for this promotion on Jan 22nd and was turned down due to to many inquires on my Chex Systems report. I had 4 in the second week of December and a total of 21 on my record going back to 2013. No other negative information was on my report.

Yeah same thing happened to me. I tried to open the account online but got the message:

We are unable to process your requests due to past history with other financial institution involving multiple inquiries and/or unpaid report that have been reported on Chexsystems. For more information regarding these inquiries and/or report please contact Chexsystems at 1-800-513-7125. You may also visit their website at

If you have any questions please contact Provident Credit Union at (800)632-4600 or (650)508-0300.

I opened 4 account in the past 2 months, so I guess that’s why.

Just turned down for high inquiries as well for March 2016

If you become a member of Provident, you can also get a Super Rewards Checking account, which pays 2.01% on balances up to $25,000….which of course, I learned about from DofC – thanks!

Can you open a business account without having a business?

No you can’t. I live and own a business in CA. You usually need the LLC or Corp paperwork (Articles of Incorporation) or sole proprietorship paperwork. You will need 2 forms of ID (DL + credit card). You got to be signatory authority (verbal confirmation). Sometimes they ask for copy of business permit from the city.

100% sure this is still a HP, on your HP DPs page you say its only a hardpull for a membership but as with most credit unions they won’t let you just have a checking you need a membership which requires a savings as well. They do a HP on all new memberships.

It says: Direct deposit required: Yes, although online Bill Pay is included
Direct deposit is NOT required. And what does Bill Pay have to do with bonus requirements?
