BPme Rewards Launches Price Match ($0.99 Per Month)

BPme Rewards has launched something called price match. Users need to enroll and it costs $0.99 per month it then works like this:

  • You must pump at least 8 gallons of gas to be eligible and must use BPme Rewards
  • Price match looks at prices within a 1/2 mile radius and if eligible awards a discount to your account (if no competitor is found it will expand the search to 2 miles until a competitor is found)
  • Discount applies to your next fill up and is capped at 5¢ per gallon

Price match uses GasBuddy to compare but it only includes the following brands: Exxon, Mobil, Shell, Chevron, and Marathon. Diesel fuel is excluded.

As they say the devil is in the detail and this program seems largely worthless with the mile radius, competitors confined to those brands. Even if it does find a discount it’s capped at 5¢ per gallon.

What a horrible deal. Of the five competitors listed, four aren’t even in my service area. And if that wasn’t bad enough, it excludes diesel which is all I buy anyway. Not sure who thought up this promo but they need to be fired.

Shell, Marathon, Bp, etc usually have 5 cents off already. Now we need to pay a monthly fee ? Unless I am missing something and account discounts stack, with this, then this program is complete junk.

The closest BP gas to me is $2.299/gal (Jan 23 4PM EST pricing according to GasBuddy). The Shell station I always go to is on the way, also $2.299. I would use my weekly T-mobile with my gold status for $0.15 off to make it $2.149 in this case. Without T-Mobile there are a couple local private gas stations with super cheap gas right there. One right next door to the BP (lol) for $2.239 (6 cents cheaper) and one literally one block over for $2.119 (18 cents cheaper).

This deal is a nothing-burger as Van Jones would say.

Wow, what a worthless promo. The team coming up with such campaigns should be fired. This is good for no one. Neither customers gonna be interested, nor it’s gonna bring about any change for the company. Such a waste of time. I feel like I wasted my time even reading and trying to understand this shit.

I would pay $1 a month to not need to think about gas prices. I bet there is a price point where this sort of lock-in program makes sense (think amazon prime but on a smaller scale), however this ain’t it

People with small cars rarely buy more than 8 gal. So max discount $0.05 * 8 = $0.40. It’s less than half of what it costs to subscribe, not to mention the nuisance factor.

Exactly. Even with a long commute, I was maybe buying 35 gal a month, worst case. If there’s one of those five brands across the street, and their price is $.05 higher every single time, and it’s accurately reported on GasBuddy (inconsistent), I could maybe make $0.75/mo? Plus I don’t think I’ve ever seen BP be the least expensive.

I think the promo is already foolproof (for BPme) but they can further reduce their risk by capping the life-time discount at $2.00 per household.

And also change the name from BPme to F***me because that’s what this is.

Thought BP was already a euphemism for that, as in, “wow, those guys really BP’ed the Gulf…”

Kroger/Harris Teeter can give up to $1 off per gal in my area
