Dan’sDeals is reporting that REDcard loads will be cash-only starting tomorrow. It will be hard-coded to reject credit card loads. This is based on a memo which others reported and he saw himself.
I’m not surprised if this turns out to be true. I’ll try confirming it at my local Target and I’ll update this post if I see anything. The main reason we’re posting this unconfirmed report is so that all our readers could get in a $2,500 load today. That’s where I’m going now…
One big loss here is that those who had SoftServe won’t be able to go back to it with its higher debit/credit load limits since Softcard shut it doors recently. Most who got in on REDbird from the beginning will be happy they did so despite losing a little on the Serve end, but those who changed recently may end up losing in the long run.
Two big questions remain:
- Will debit cards and PIN-enabled gift cards still work?
- Will Amex For Target die along with REDbird. (This is a very important question in my opinion.) It technically shouldn’t, but it may get coded along with REDbird not to allow credit card loads.
UPDATE: See FrequentMiler’s post Confirmed: REDbird credit card loads will not be allowed as of May 6, 2015
