    • Carlson Hotels (10:1)
    • Hilton Hotels (10:1)
    • Hyatt Hotels & Resorts (2.5:1)
    • Intercontinental Hotel Group (10:2)
    • Marriott (10:2)
    • Shangri-La (1:1)

The Fine Print

  • “Qualifying Period” means:  Between 20th September 2017 and 31st October, 2017 for Club Carlson, Hilton Honors, Hyatt Gold Passport, IHG Rewards Club, Marriott Rewards and Shangri-La Golden Circle
  • Bonus Avios can take 4-6 weeks to show on your account from the date of conversion.

Our Verdict

This deal is somewhat common, usually offered multiple times per year. Sometimes it includes SPG and other times it excludes SPG. This offer excludes SPG transfers. That means only really transferring from Marriott is worth considering and that’s only when you’re redeeming for Points + Travel Package.  British Airways falls under Package 1, meaning for 270,000 Marriott points you normally get a category 1-5 7 night package and 120,000 Avios. With this bonus you’d get 162,000 Avios. Might be worth considering if you highly value Avios but otherwise I’d give it a miss.

It looks like IHG will take 4-6 week. That’s unacceptable for me so I’ll have to pass.

Why is the Marriott transfer ratio 5:1 instead of 10:2. That seems odd.

Whoops… I mean 10:2 instead of 5:1

Don’t AVIOS expire without earning activity? Might be worth considering to extend the life of a BA account balance.

Avios expire in 36 month of no activity. If you have Amex MR or Chase UR points you can transfer 1K points to Avios once every 3 years to prevent them from expiring… if you have not used them at all for 3 years the chances are you do not need to transfer significant chunk of any points to BA… and if you transfer just the min to extend expiration date the bonus is irrelevant.

Good Luck
