Bypass Chase 5/24 Rule On Business Cards With Black Star ‘Just For You’ Offers

Update 12/30/20: More targeted.

Update 12/6/20: More people targeted.

Update 1/28/20: More people targeted

Update 11/16/19: More people targeted

Update 8/25/19: Looks like more people have been targeted, worth checking to see if that includes you.

Update 6/4/19: Multiple reports today that new people have been targeted for these offers which are immune to 5/24 (1, 2, 3). Be sure to check for the fixed APR.

Update 4/25/19: Many more data points indicating this is bypassing 5/24. Interestingly after applying some people are still seeing the other offers and have successfully been approved for a second card. For most people the other offers disappear after applying but that doesn’t seem to always be the case. Best idea is to still apply for the card you want the most first and then maybe you get lucky and can get a second card a swell.

Original Post:

It has long been possible to bypass the Chase 5/24 rule on personal cards by looking for ‘Just For You’/’Selected For You’ green check mark offers. Yesterday reddit user GR1022 saw an offer on a business card with a black star saying ‘For Business Owners’ when checking for Just For You offers. This offer has a fixed APR and despite being over 5/24 GR1022 & others (gofarhaveacigar & Pointsmiles) have been approved. I haven’t been able to independently verify this as the offers don’t show up for me, but based on the amount of datapoints this seems to be working. The offers look as follows:

Some other information:

  • These are showing up on personal accounts (not on personal & business combined accounts)
  • Standard offers are showing (e.g $500 on the Chase Ink Cash/Chase Ink Unlimited and 80,000 on the Chase Ink Preferred)
  • After applying for one card the other offers will disappear, so apply for the card you want the most first

For those of you getting the offers, how many Chase credit cards do you have? Do you have personal checking/savings? Business checking/savings? And more importantly, if you do not have a business checking/savings with Chase, do you have a business credit card from another bank that reports to at least one business credit bureau? I am just curious to know why Chase would offer business cards to personal card holders if there is no known business by that customer (especially since they remind me a few times a year on my Ink statements that the card is intended for business use only). As for me, I never get pre-approvals from Chase. I have a Freedom and Freedom Flex as well as Ink Unlimited and Ink Cash.

Would love to be targeted for once for these. Not sure what triggers these

For those who are targeted, would be good to know x/12 and x/24 status. I suspect many of us are wasting our time checking for these offers.

Should we unlink the biz/personal accounts to get these or does it matter? When I log in on the app there is a biz side and personal side, the same offers (none of which are star offers) show. TIA.

I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t have a business account at Chase yet and I’ve never seen anything business related in the offers. I wish I could find a way to get the effect of a link so maybe I’d get them.

Do you have to check personal account or do these show up in business account?

I wonder if having a Chase Biz Checking account will help your chances of getting the black star preapproval? I was lucky and got black stars for the CIU and CIC 2 years ago… both lifetime keeper cards for me… especially the CIC!!

Did this 1 year ago, got banned from Chase. Don’t recommend.

Call Chase. Ask them what a “black star offer” is. They will tell you no such thing EXISTS. Ask for a supervisor. They will tell you the same thing. Appeal to the Executive Office. They will tell you the same thing. I’m speaking from experience. Now I have no doubt some people may have received such an offer and got approved. It’s just the Chase doesn’t acknowledge it. So if you get declined, don’t expect to call the recon line to get approved. Just saying. And Doctor of Credit is no help on the issue. If you tell the truth like this, they will accuse you of “trolling.”

Did you literally use the term “black star offer” because that’s just a layman term.
