Capital One QuickSilver Mastercard To Remove Various Credit Card Benefits (Extended Warranty, Price Protection, Car Rental Insurance & More)

Capital One sent out notice that the following benefits are being removed from their QuickSilver cards beginning September 1, 2021:

  • Price Protection
  • Extended Warranty
  •  MasterRental Coverage
  • Travel Assistance Services, RoadAssist Services, Travel Accident Insurance

This notice has been sent out on the QuickSilver card; let us know if you got it on any other card. Just last year Capital One added Price Protection, and it’s now being removed from QuickSilver at least.

Update: Readers note that this change might only be affecting the QuickSilver Mastercard, not the more common QuickSilver Visa.

Most of these benefits were removed from many other cards under the Mastercard umbrella back in 2019, but some issuers had kept the benefits even after the generic Mastercard benefits discontinued them.

Called Capital One to check if my Venture Visasignature still has Car Rental Insurance and they said they have removed it in September 2021. Upon checking the Capital One website it’s still there, so confusing

Wow, this is a testament to receive paper statements; simply because I did I note these changes originally or notification on my May statement. Thanks again for keeping us well informed. Just a brief note however; Capital One is “not” the only credit card issuer retracking member benefits—just another that has decided to recoup profits at the cost and inconvenience to its credit card members. I dont’t believe that these companies realized that credit is a privilege in which the cardholder has the sole discretion of how and when to utilized their CL to best suit their household or business holders. Card holders are typically loyal only to those cards that provide a service; albeit customer service, generous CL ,small to no AF, perks and the listening to their customer base and taking action on their needs and concerns. This mimic whata going on with the hotel loyalty programs and the like. I could normally rest assured a reservation made and paid for was confirm; but now learning that hotels are giving anywhere to a two week or months notice of room cancellations. Therefore card companies removing travel assistance is more of an affront to its user.

My Quicksilver Mastercard is of the old “World Mastercard” variety and I have not received any notice of reduction of benefits. I hope they keep it as it is.

Some Capital One Visa cardholders also received notices. I emailed you a screenshot about a week ago.

Does anybody else think it is wrong for these benefits to be listed on Mastercard’s website saying if you have a World or World Elite card, these benefits apply. Then each individual bank only offers some or none of the benefits? Isn’t that kind of like a bait and switch tactic? Or false advertising?

I think Mastercard needs to write better contracts with their customers to protect themselves. It’s getting so confusing that now I just assume all Mastercards lack any protections at all and just use American Express instead for coverage. Is this *really* a good strategy for Mastercard and their partner banks?

Have both MC World Elite and VISA Signature of this and have not seen a notice.

I think this is my highest net earner for foreign currency transactions for a no-fee card given that Citi Double Cash and Fidelity charge FCF. (Except for grandfathered no fee Savor at restaurants and other specific categories.) So it still has its uses…

I have one issued about the same time and also a visa signature. No mail either. I didn’t know it had price protection, do you know where I can find that information? I tried https://ecm.capitalone.com/WCM/card/visa-signature-guide-to-benefits-revised.pdf and it only has purchase security, and nothing about price protection.

Damn shame, especially concerning the price protection. Leave it to a card called “Quicksilver” to be Mercurial…

I always think I’d use price protection if I had a card that still offered it, but when the time comes I end up putting the purchase on whatever card I’m meeting spend on anyway. So in practice, my quicksilver just sits in my sock drawer until I travel internationally and need the mastercard interchange rate plus no transaction fees.
