Visa Gift Cards
We used to be able to get cashback on Visa gift cards, but that stopped a while back. Now they started again giving a small .5% cashback on Visa gift cards. Nice to help offset the purchase and shipping fees. This could be especially useful for meeting minimum spend requirements or for a card with promotional high earnings (i.e. Discover Miles at 3x or a retention offer).
You can also get a lower .4% cashback on Visa gift cards with Simply Best Coupons.
Other Cards
Another interesting thing is that Topcashback removed the restrictions on the 2% cashback for other gift cards. Most portals exclude gift cards to Hess Gasoline, Gulf, Safeway, BP, Best Buy, Arco, and Target. (Ebates is a little more generous and does apparently give cashback on Target and Arco.)
Topcashback used to have the same exclusions yet they’ve now been removed from the Terms and 2% cashback should work on all gift cards.
Note that Topcashback still excludes “Gift Card Mall eGifts” from cashback. I believe they mean to exclude the Giftcardmall in-store card (no double dipping…), not to exclude the other e-gift cards, but I can’t say for certain.
[I hadn’t even realized that they sell e-gift cards until I checked it up now. Not sure why they don’t offer those for sale on eBay.]
Final Thoughts
Let’s hope these better cashback deals stay on permanently, though I’m not holding my breath. Remember also that Topcashback is offering 2.25% on Amex gift cards today (4/22/15) only.
Regarding using the giftcardmall directly via portal (not ebay), can a Citi credit card be used and not incur a cash advance charge? Thanks
From memory, I’ve read that Citi has not been coding GCM as cash advance, but I can’t say that for certain.
Amex Biz cards removed the $2,000 denomination cards sometime earlier today…. not sure if it’s temporary or what’s going on…
