Best Value Checking $0 Monthly Fee
Your best option for avoiding monthly fees is to go after the Best Value Checking account which has no monthly fee and does not require any minimums to keep it fee free. Although you can be charged for “assisted transactions”, if you have 3-5 of these transactions a month you’ll be charged $6. More information in their fee schedule.
Our Verdict
If you complete this bonus, please set yourself multiple reminders that you need to fill in the paperwork to claim this bonus. It is NOT automatic. Because you have to submit these claims manually, I imagine that Chartway will be going through your transactions to ensure that your direct deposit is employer payroll or government benefits and not just an ACH transfer. Because of that I’d only suggest doing this offer if you can easily change your bank details with your employer. I am going to complete this promo here is how:
- Open a new account, using a credit card that earns at a high rate for everyday purchases with it’s cash advance fee set to $0 to fund an initial $1,500 (maximum allowed) +$30
- Donate $10 to We Promise Foundation -$10
- Make ten small debit card transactions, will just do small regular transactions such as coffee or supermarket items
- Pay 3 credit card bills which need to be paid anyway
- Get my employer to change my salary over to this new account (making sure to give the HR department a small box of chocolates for putting up with me) -$2
- Fill out and submit the claim for for my bonus
- Wait for my bonus to post (+$150)
- Wait until it’s been 180 days since the account was opened
- Transfer my funds out and close account
In the end I’ll net $168 assuming I just use a credit card that earns 2% cash back on all purchases, although I will have to pay taxes on $150 of this bonus. It’s still worth the 30 minutes – one hour that this will likely take me. What are your plans? Will you complete this bonus?
We’ve added it to our list of checking bonuses and may possibly add it to the best bank bonuses available.

Hat tip to Maximising Money
Seems the page to submit your bonus info to was removed and now just redirects back to the homepage.
Much easier to complete than Wells Fargo’s recent offer. You (1) complete the application online without the need to go to a branch, (2) only need a $150 direct deposite instead of Wells Fargo’s $500, (3) can fund with a credit card to earn extras. Thanks for the info and the very useful guide for completing the mission!
Since I live in Houston I was trying to become a member for free by selecting that option on the link you posted. I was surprised when I read the following:
” Please note additionally that an inquiry to a credit bureau will be submitted. ”
Did you also get a hard pull? Googling this topic, I found out that it’s not that unusual for a credit union to pull your credit when opening a checking account.
I got through the application only to receive an email a few days later that said, “Chartway Federal Credit Union does not allow more than 1 [ChexSystems] inquiry.
I did the signup and in my account there is a place to upload documents, the link text is this: Upload a document (Paystubs, etc). So, I’m going to switch my DD at work for the full amount and then ACH pull money out to my main checking account.
Trying to complete sign up today and I can’t seem to credit card fund more than $995.00. Still worth it, even if CC points are slightly less.
Any data to see if an ach push will count towards dd? Thx!
None yet, I think they will manually check so I wouldn’t risk it.
According to their reps it is, haven’t seen any evidence to contradict it.
Did you open and verify it’s soft pull?
Noob question: I can’t seem to open chase checking account online win my zip-code? I’m from Minnesota. Is there an alternative?
Open it in branch, I’m assuming they aren’t letting you open because there aren’t any branches nearby though.
So then could I open one when I’m traveling to other states? Say for example in Wisconsin. Thanks
Anecdotal data says yes, but I know some people have struggled. I think it depends on the branch you got to and the teller you get.
Also, do you have an article about “Free cash advance” credit card that gives % per daily expense?
Not sure I understand the question, sorry!
