Chase & Amazon Renew Their Co-Branded Credit Card Agreement

This is a little late, but on February 4th Chase & Amazon announced that they would be renewing their co-branded credit card relationship. Financials and deal length were not disclosed, but the Wall Street Journal reported that at least one other credit card issuer was interested in taking over the Amazon relationship.

Chase & Amazon have offered a co-branded credit card that runs on the Visa payment network since 2002. The card will keep the same benefit structure and fees, this is somewhat surprising considering the Amazon store card (issued by Synchrony) actually offers a better rewards structure with 5% back in the form of statement credit. The Chase Amazon card earns at the following rates:

  • 3% cash back on Amazon purchases
  • 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants & drug stores
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

I think I might actually apply for the synchrony card, both bc of 5% back and the signup bonus. Any idea when it will hit $40 again? Best I’ve seen lately is $20.
