Chase Approving Accounts Despite Users Declining Due To Pop Up (Issue To Be Resolved)

Chase recently added a pop up during the application for a new credit card that states you can continue with the application but you won’t be eligible for the sign up bonus. Users have the option to also not proceed with the application, despite selecting this selection option people have been approved for the card. This is an issue on Chase’s end that they have acknowledged and stated they will contact affected cardholders directly, giving them the option to keep the account open AND receive the sign up bonus. This is a fantastic outcome for those involved.

Again, the pop-up is about eligibility of the sign-up bonus. It has nothing to do with your credit worthiness for a Chase credit card. This is clearly spelled out everywhere, including this DOC posting.

I got rejected. Sined up on 6/23. I have 3/24. This was for csr. Last sub was on 5/23 with csp. Signed up csr on 2019. Anyone else was able to have success even with sign up bonus less than 2 years ago?

How do I know if a pop-up will trigger (where on the application page would this show)? I started to fill out the application but didn’t see anything that said you can apply and see if you’re eligible for the bonus and then decide if you want to proceed. I’m concerned Chase disabled the pop-up while they’re working on it. I just don’t want to risk burning a hard pull because the pop-up is disabled.

It’s being called pop-up jail but it’s actually an interstitial page rather than an actual pop-up. That said, you can see below I got the HP before the “PUJ” page.

PUJ is honestly the least of ur worries. did u audit urself? what are ur stats for new accnts and inquiries x/6/12/24? and i assume u dont have CSP? wats ur overall credit profile like AAoA and cards w/ chase? that is shitload more important than disabled PUJ page.

I am 2/6, 4/12, 5/24. Last card opened was CIBP in 05/2025. AAoA is 6 years, 7 months. I do not currently have a CSP or CSR. Received last CSP bonus in 08/2021 and PC’d CSP to CFU in 07/2022. Should I apply or should I wait a while longer?

hmm. this is a tough profile. ur at 2/6 and also 4/12? which banks and dates? also, wat about inquiries? i assume chase pulls EX for u but not sure which state u live. but these new accnts are super recent. AAoA is OK but u just got CIP on 5/25? not sure chase is gonna like u running at that velocity. YMMV.

wats ur overall credit profile like? chase spend + income/CL%? CPC? have u been closing cards back to back?

altho its good u dont hold CSP or CSR and u PCd awhile back. but wat u did the last 6-12 mo could be an issue w/ the typical “too many recent accnts.”

but i have seen ur profile at 50/50 approval rate. so u def could try.

theres even DP chase personal / biz double approval back in may. and still got approved for new CSR but was at 3/24.

also, there is a 2 stage PUJ process. u will prob pass PUJ 1 for SUB requirements since ur clear, but for CRA stats, chase may do HP but still give you PUJ stage 2. meaning they will offer the card but no SUB. so if u decline, u just got HP w/ no card. OR chase could just straight reject u.

up to ur risk tolerance on this one. but i would say its still possible u get approved. major risk is u get approved for card w/ HP but no SUB.

Does anyone know how quickly you can PC and reapply for another card under their new system? I see loads of DPs of people shooting their shot for the CSR while still holding the CSP, but all are getting auto denied. I can’t make out if anyone has tried to PC a new CSP and applying for the CSR and being approved/eligible for the SUB again. Any DPs out there? I signed up for the 100k CSP a few months ago and met the spend, so with the removal of the 48 month rule it’d be great if you could jump right into a CSR with a SUB again.

Sorry I didn’t know the rules of how early you could PC a card (thanks @Ash). I was hoping Chase’s issue from this post of initially denying but somehow still approving cards potentially came about from people PCing a newish CSR/CSP given that now the 48 month hard rule has been dropped. Wishful thinking I guess.

GundamWing01
GundamWing01 (@guest_2087922)
June 27, 2025 14:51

its not about knowing the rules. while u thanked ash, u didnt bother doing more research about the comment. u should have been pissed at urself.

ur PC question is one of the most fundamental principles of the game. and ur playing it blind without doing any basic research. u literally just got the CSP and SUB. u can NOT be running away after stealing the new card benefits to chase a new CSR SUB. every single bank in this game has restrictions to prevent this. thats on top of the CARD Act 2009.

u cant PC from AF card to AF card less than 12 mo. but u can PC from no AF to no AF or to AF and reverse. YMMV based on bank policies. but thats a secret channel used by advanced users only because chase and amex both have algos and RAT to ID secret british agents like u who dont know the rules of the game.

if u got a new card SUB then u PC down to escape the AF and try to get a new SUB, ur gonna get PUJ for life.

That article has nothing to do with what most of us use the CFPB for. The CFPB is still forwarding complaints to FIs. I’ve won and lost CFPB cases in the past so they were never (and are still not) a silver bullet.

Just to be clear, this is only for those who already applied and were ineligible for the SUB and chose not to obtain the card and Chase opened the card anyway. This is not an all-comers sort of thing.

Chase is trying to make things right. Otherwise this sounds like pure fraud Wells Fargo style opening unauthorized accounts.

Hopefully this decreased the number of their complaints to federal regulators, if that is still a thing in 2025 America.

“… [Chase] doing the right thing without government intervention.”

When has this ever happened? In the past 25 years, JPMorgan Chase has paid $40 billion in fines due to violations of banking and labor laws. $40 BILLION. That’s with a B. That comes to about $1.6 billion per year. Wow. This is just what the government was able to uncover.

Are you sure they have been doing the right thing?

Over many years on deals that I was entitled to the CFPB helped. However previous to the CFPB I was also able to resolve by being persistent with the bank or company, or filing with the state attorney general. The main benefit of CFPB was the speed in that most things got a fast initial response and I think maybe a faster resolution, although I am not 100% on the speed part to resolve.

False. You do not have less consumer protections. You have one less agency to go through. Your protections remain and you can still resolve these issues. I have been in miles and points a very long time. I resolved issues before CFPB existed, and I resolved issues without using them in some cases and merely being persistent. Its not the end of the world if they are involved or not. You have your state attorney general and banking regulators. There was a false understnading that CFPB can do anything and it is not the case. They had nothing to do with consumer protection laws other than to expedite the enforcement by way of communication. If you think consumer protection laws are lower, you are wrong .Occasionally things happen. But do I have constant issues? No.

If they were doing the right thing, they wouldn’t have created credit cards accounts for people who didn’t authorize those credit card accounts (and actively chose to decline those accounts).

In this specific case, it seems to be a legitimate mistake… though I probably shouldn’t be giving any big bank the benefit of the doubt, lol. But mistake or not, accounts were created without the permission of the customer.

And we all remember back when Wells Fargo creating millions of unauthorized accounts without their costumers’ knowledge or permission. That is why regulation is needed.

In those cases you contact your state attorney general and you can even contact the state that they operate. How many disputes do you have? In this particular case with Chase the worst scenario would be you get the card call, complain and cancel the card and are assesed no fee. No catastrophe there.

I work in this space for a large bank and we actually prefer the CFPB complaint pipeline. The procedures for handling complaints forwarded from States are VERY janky and ad-hoc, almost nothing is automated as it comes in and moves into our ticketing system, the CFPB system is similar but at the end of the day we’re talking 1 system with relatively little change/churn versus 50 that seem to have new regulations coming every week.

At the end of the day complaints are going to come in one way or the other and the banks just want to resolve them whilst keeping metrics like ticket turnaround and cost-per-ticket low. Believe it or not there isn’t much of a profit motive to cheating customers, most of the time they’re just asking for stupid mistakes to be fixed, and in fact the banks want to reduce regulatory risk given the massive fines they can attract.

So we now have one of the few systems in place that BOTH customers and corporations prefer. Luckily the pipeline is still running but it’s truly nonsensical that due to partisian politics it’s being defunded and deprioritized, this is one of the few “everybody wins” programs out there.
