RIP: Chase Business Card Referrals Only For New Chase Business Card Customers (Effective 10/7/25)

Chase offers a referral bonus when referring a friend to a personal or business Chase card. Beginning on October 7, 2025, there is a change for business referrals: the referrer will only get a bonus if the friend is a new Chase Business card customer.

You can find this wording when seeing the referral within your login:

Effective October 7th, 2025, you will be eligible to receive referral bonus awards for new Chase Business card customers only. Referrals of individuals with existing Chase business card accounts will no longer qualify for the referral bonus.

RIP. The referral angle really spruced up the bonuses. We still have a few more months to maximize until October 7th.

A few notes:

  • It sounds to me that the friend would have to have a current open Chase business card to be excluded. If the friend once had a Chase business card and no longer holds any, then the referrer would likely be eligible for the referrer bonus.
  • If the friend has a Chase business checking or savings account that should not be excluded as only business cardholders are mentioned in the exclusion.
  • Again, none of this affects the sign up bonus for the new member/business.
  • It also does not affect the referrer bonus on Chase personal cards.
  • For now, it appears this is only affecting Chase Ultimate Rewards business cards, not cobranded business card referrals.

Assuming previous cardholders are eligible this isn’t so bad if you are diligent about cancelling. Only the CIBC is a keeper but I can alternate having it with P2.

Anyone else getting the sense that the Sapphire Business didn’t achieve the new sign-up targets and so this helps spike 3 months of applications? Chase has been better about announcing changes than AMEX in recent years, but this is still a long lead time.

If Chase BRMs continue to have access to elevated offers, then this is less of a big deal than might otherwise be the case. BRM offers frequently beat the public offer + referral combination for folks in the higher federal tax brackets living in high-tax states. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ymmv-in-branch-chase-ink-business-premier-unlimited-1500-1200-offers/

But one thing that is not clear is who PUJ will work for BRM offers, as those are submitted and underwritten manually.

Thanks for all the good times, Chase. The 40k+95k Ink train was some of the best times I’ve had besides that spicy App and the First Class train bank! Moved up my retirement many years.

Where is the annoying “It’s over Johnny, it’s over!” guy to tell us it truly is over?

So the correct thing to do according to chase would be for me and p2 to cancel all of our chase business cards if I’m understanding this correctly 🫡
