[Expired] [Targeted] Chase Freedom: Get $15/$25 when Using Google Pay 3x [4/1-4/31]

Deal has expired, view more Chase Freedom deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Chase sent out an email offer on the Freedom card:

  • Add your Chase Freedom card to Google Pay, use it to make three purchases during the month of April, and earn $25 cash back.
  • Others got the same offer, but for $15 back instead of $25.

To be eligible for this offer, download the Google Pay app and add your Chase Freedom card by taking a picture of it. Note: you must add your card in this manner in order to be eligible for this offer. There’s no registration requirement; it works automatically for anyone targeted.

The Fine Print

  • This offer is valid from 04/01/2019 through 04/30/2019.
  • You will receive 2,500 bonus points with this bonus offer, which can be redeemed for $25 cash back.
  • To qualify for this offer, you must make 3 transactions using your consumer Chase Freedom card with Google Pay during checkout.
  • Purchases are when you, or an authorized user, use a card to make purchases of products and services, minus returns or refunds.
  • Please allow up to 8 weeks after the qualifying purchase(s) post(s) to your account for the bonus points to post to your credit card account.
  • To receive the bonus points, your account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. If you change your credit card product during the promotional period you will forfeit this offer.
  • This offer is non-transferable.
  • Limit one offer per customer or card account.
  • Your participation in this program may result in miscellaneous income and may be reportable to you and the IRS, on a Form 1099-MISC (miscellaneous income) or Form 1042-S (Foreign Person’s U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding) for the year in which the income is paid. You are responsible for any tax liability, related to participating in this program. Please consult your tax advisor if you have any questions about the impact to your personal income tax returns.
  • Chase may terminate this offer at any time without notice.

Our Verdict

Given that some people are getting the $15 offer and some are getting the $25 offer, it’s clear that these offers are targeted to select recipients who got it via email. Sounds like an easy way to rack up some bonus Ultimate Rewards points. Seems to be only available on the Freedom card, I haven’t seen any reports of others cards getting this offer.

Hundreds of stores accept Google Pay, see a long list here. (I think any store that accepts NFC payments would work for Google Pay too (?), just about all major chains and most small stores accept NFC.) There are many websites and apps that also accept Google Pay. The email is clear that using the card in-app will trigger this bonus offer, but isn’t clear if it’ll work when used in-store or on the web. My hunch is that it will work with any of those.

There’s a similar offer for Samsung Pay for March.

Big thanks to all the readers who sent this in

Does anyone know if purchases in Google Play Store qualify ? It seems that playstore is using google pay info, and purchases show up in Google Pay history, but I feel like they don’t qualify ? Made 3 app purchases I was going to anyway a few weeks back, and no bonus posted yet.

Any help appreciated.

Is there any app which sells gift cards like Gyft and supports Google Pay?
Or is there a list of apps which supports Google Pay? Walmart app?

https://pay.google.com/about/where-to-use/

Tons of stores/restaurants listed; doesn’t specify which of them are in-person only vs also working on their app/website (e.g. Dunkin’ Donuts has been mentioned as supporting both).

These are the app/website-only companies listed:
AirBnB, Caviar, Doordash, Fandango, Houzz, Instacart, Kayak, Starbucks, Thrive Market, Wish, BeyondMenu, Blue Apron, Boxed, Groupon, Hotel Tonight, Postmates, Jimmy John’s, Ruelala, Ritual, Via

Any websites/apps with cheap items that accept Google Pay? My phone can’t do NFC payments.

I have Chase Freedom but I didn’t get any email from Chase about this. Does this mean that I wasn’t targeted and that even if I do download Google Pay then I won’t get the $25 bonus if I met the requirement? Thanks in advance guys.

I wouldn’t count on it, but you can decide whether it is worth the trouble to try.

This offer hasn’t even started yet, so nobody’s going to have any firm answers….

I’m under the assumption that the people targeted for this offer are not regular users of mobile payments. Does anyone have any data points that suggest otherwise?

I use Chase Pay at ShopRite only when there is a promotion.

I don’t have a smartphone with NFC so even though I was targeted, I can’t use this offer if it requires in-store purchases.

I have a low-end Samsung smartphone so no Samsung Pay and no Google Pay.

Got $15 off for Freedom, P2 got $25 off for Chase Freedom Unlimited.

Is this a sign that Chase Pay is failing?

Should mention that I got $15 off for one of my Freedom cards, but not on my other Freedom card.
