Our Verdict

Most readers won’t be eligible for this card due to the 5/24 rule. If you are eligible it might make sense to apply for another Chase card instead (e.g Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve) and then downgrade to this card at a later stage if you value the 1.5x points earning. That being said if you do want this card, I’d personally wait until affiliate links start showing this offer (usually within a day or two) and then you should be apply through Affinityy and get a further $30. We’ve also seen a bonus of $300 on this card previously as well. As always if you have any questions about Chase, read this post first.

I am seeing two offers for Chase Freedom Unlimited (change randomly) right now.

1. Earn up to a $225 bonus Earn a $150 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus earn an additional $75 bonus after you spend $5,000 in the first 12 months.

2. Earn up to a $200 bonus Earn a $150 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus earn an additional $50 bonus after you spend $5,000 in the first 12 months.

I decided to try for this, Slate, and Ink. I’m under 5/24, either 3/24, or 4/24 if counting loan. Freedom Unlimited approved after thawing EX. Slate pending. Ink denied for “too many accounts w/ us”. Received decision Slate denied for same reason. My credit limits total $25K between my 2 old Chase cards plus 3rd new 1. In conclusion, I waited over the 24 months to submit apps, Chase just gave me an FU.

Applied and approved for Chase Freedom Unlimited card on Black Friday while the bonus was still $150. Then saw the bonus go up to $200 just as I received my new card end of Nov. Tried calling customer service to see if my new card can be tied into the newer and higher bonus – no luck from their side. One option suggested was to try applying for a second Freedom Unlimited card tied to the $200 bonus (with the risk of another credit check, etc.). This is my most recent credit application (late Nov. 2018) and I’m still within the 5/24 rule. My credit score is on the higher side of the scale and I only have 1 card that carries a balance while still on 0% APR promo period. Anyone else go thru a similar scenario? Would you apply for a second Freedom Unlimited card with the $200 bonus (and risk another credit check)? Or do you just settle for the $150?

I love my Chase Freedom Unlimited card! In addition to the easy to get $150 bonus (https://creditcards.chase.com/cash-back-credit-cards/chase-freedom-unlimited) and no annual fee, Chase also has a refer-a-friend program that will net you $100 per referral! Please feel free to use my referral link if you would like. 🙂 [removed]

I referred someone for CFU. If they ask Chase to match the higher offer, will that void my referral?

Affinityy still shows $150 signup bonus

Just FYI, I think Affinityy removed all credit card offers. Can’t find any on their website.

I’ve also been checking Affinityy each day for this.
Is there an alternative to them for extra bonus?

Does chase stopped matching higher bonus ?
Below is the reply received from Chase when I sent a secure message to match for unlimited card applied 2 weeks ago
“I’ll be happy to review your inquiry about matching the
new $200 sign up bonus points offer for opening a Chase
Freedom Unlimited account.
XXX, let me clarify that were are unable to match
this specific sign-up bonus offer currently displayed at
“creditcards.chase.com/freedom-credit-cards”. Our credit
card offers vary and change, and new ones become available
on a regular basis. We hope you’ll continue to check with
us for available offers that apply to your account.
Although we appreciate your loyalty, we ask that you trust
that this decision is the same for all cardmembers. We
feel that adhering to the same policy for all such members
is the best way to remain fair and consistent.

We know this is not the answer you hoped for and apologize
for any inconvenience that may have been caused. We
appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Chase.”

IMO the biggest ever CFU open bonus was the 2X for first year.

Does the Chase Freedom (not CFU) have bigger sign up bonuses ever?
