    • 5x points at IHG properties
    • 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores & restaurants
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • This card is not subject to the Chase 5/24 rule
  • 5,000 points when you add an authorized user after they make their first purchase

Our Verdict

Normally this would be a great offer, but you can currently get 100,000 points after $2,000 in spend by calling in. Personally I think that offer is significantly better than this offer, but this offer does have a lower minimum spend requirement of $1,000 and also a $50 statement credit instead of the extra 20,000 points plus you don’t have to apply by phone. I still think everybody should apply for the other offer instead of this one, but maybe this is of some use to people. You can read more about Chase cards generally here. I’ll add mention to this in our best credit card bonus list.

  1. T says:

for reference, the cheapest buying 20k points has been is $92 IIRC.

spending an extra $1k for $42 of points, interesting, but not a huge difference.

  2. Jon says:

I’m guessing I might be able to SM to the 100k or this one if I just opened the IHG card? (past ~1-2 weeks)

  3. Joe says:

Just applied the 80k one without $50, any chance they’ll match?

  4. hwan says:

I am curious… I just cancelled my IHG card a month ago…… received my bonus more than 24 months ago… is it likely to get approved for the same card after cancelling merely a month ago??

  5. Prasanna says:

Does calling IHG and applying for a card surpass 5/24?

  6. Justin says:

Tried to get matched twice.. no success. Sad!

  7. Craig says:

Tried calling and Secure Msg to get matched to this offer. Both times I was told this cannot be matched. I recently got approved for this card (45 days) and was match to 100K successfully.

  8. Mj says:

Thanks for posting this. I almost applied from the IHG site and it didn’t have the 50 attached yet. I was approved for my highest limit yet, good lord.

  9. Lona says:

I called Chase about this card last week to find out what bureau they pull from. Standard “I don’t know” response and I also asked about applying over the phone. The representative told me the applications could only be done online. I don’t know if anyone else has had that type of response or not from a representative so I thought I’d share.
I did apply online, waiting for response.
Question: for those who have been approved for this card, what was your score and what bureau did they use?

  10. Matt says:

Where do the IHG points get posted to? Don’t see it anywhere on the chase portal. Also signed up on the ihg website but the account didn’t seem to ask for an ihg card to link to the account so how would it know how many points are awarded through the ihg card?

  11. YRK says:

Just got this card with this (80+5k) offer.
My 1st co branded card so please go easy on the obvious answers.
Do i need to actually PAY with my IHG card to avail status and all the other benefits with it? Whats better, IHG cc or using CSP for a paid stay.

  12. AL says:

Don’t need to pay with ihg card to receive status for stay. They are irrespective. Which card to use deepens on how you value different points. I personally would use the ihg card to pay for room at well…5x points isn’t bad.

  13. PT says:

My biggest frustration with the IHG card is how difficult it is to redeem points. I am still sitting on my 80K+ bonus points only due to a lack of ability to redeem!

For IHG this summer (July), I could not find any availability of reward nights at any place in even halfway decent locations somewhat far away from places I wanted to visit, and these were even the lower demand weekday nights. I experienced this in two completely different areas as well (hundreds of miles apart). Looking again now for Oct, all the halfway decent locations are simply unavailable for booking rewards nights. I now question if this card is worth even the $49 fee if booking a free night is difficult.

In comparison, I redeemed my other bonus points easily this summer (booking no more than 2 weeks in advance), getting top-shelf rooms at very popular higher luxury places in desirable tourist/resort locations during the peak summer July vacation time with fantastic cpp redemptions at both Hyatt and Marriott properties (& the Marriott one was just about at full capacity when I checked in & Hyatt was even hosting a wedding during a weekend, which is also higher demand).

My Hilton redemptions were OK, but somewhat better than typical (one property was very nice and one was not very good) & at least there was availability.

  14. eclipsor says:

    application link no longer works

  15. Elias says:

If I book my anniversary free night and then close the card, does the anniversary night get cancelled? Thank you.

  16. Tom says:

    Approved for Chase IHG 4/1/15
Closed Chase IHG via SM 10/23/17, got confirmation
    Last payment 10/31/17
Reapplied for Chase IHG 10/30/17 (User above said they were successful after one week)
Still showed two week decision notice via a call in after 48 hours.
11/4 received mail “We can’t process request, You already have this type of credit card account with us”

So, I obviously didn’t wait long enough after closing, what now?
    Call recon?
Will they use the same pull?
    I’m at 12/24 now, was 10/24 when I applied on 10/30/17.

  17. SPF50+ says:

Is there a miles & points comparison chart?
Airline, hotel and major transfer partners, star/point rating for difficulty in using, CPP value (I’m sure there are other factors)

  18. Mike says:

Is the $50 statement credit still part of this offer? I don’t see it. Also, does this offer give 5,000 extra points for a AU?

    • Tom says:

Yes, the $50 is the very first sentence in the direct link landing page.
Authorized users must be added and make a purchase in the first 90 days after primary user is approved and will get the 5K

I can vouch and got both last month.

  19. MIke says:

Application appears dead. The landing page is active, but when I click on apply, it says Offer Unavailable. (also tried incognito, Internet explorer)

  20. Josh says:

Applied Nov 2nd through the direct link above & approved, card came today, but no insert or language about the bonus offer anywhere in the mailing. Usually there’s something that restates the spend X in X months to get X points, etc… Has me a little worried about whether it’ll post once I spend the $1k

  21. Chris says:

All the 80k links are dead

  22. ChrisC says:

If you call in you can get 80k after 2k spend.
