Our Verdict

Chase IHG Premier card is still offering 140,000 points. That’s a much better offer and given that 5/24 rule applies to both cards I don’t think it makes sense to apply for this traveler card at all. Because of that I won’t be adding it to our best credit card page.

I’ve got the other 2 IHG cards. I’ve slowed down my collection, especially Chase. 75K= $375 with no fee? I’m in, unless I’m missing something. Thanks for the heads up.

75000×0.5cents=$375. Now you decide whether makes sense to waste 5/24 in your particular case.

The Select (discontinued) and Premier are objectively better, but pitching this as a “gateway” card for skeptical friends and family could make sense.

The 75k bonus can easily be used for three nights at a decent HIEx or Staybridge property (or a week at some Candlewoods) and with no annual fee, there’s little up-front risk or a reason to bother closing it.

For spending and benefits? Look elsewhere. For demonstrating a quick, repeatable, low-risk win? Traveler.

“This product is not available to either current cardmembers of this credit card, or previous cardmembers of this credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months.” didn’t say the premier version. Guess it’s okay??

You can. But this card is just not worth wasting a 5/24 slot.

It depends on your purpose for the card. My favorite hotel line is Kimpton and this bonus is good for two nights in many of them which will save you around $600 depending on which ones you stay at.

If you have the IHG Select and/or Premier, you can not apply for the Traveler card, you can only have a product change from the Premier or Select to the Traveler card. If you have either Select or Premier and apply for the Traveler card in hope to receive the bonus, you will be denied because Chase will view the application as you “already have a Premier or Select card”. This is as per customer service after trying to apply for the Traveler card while currently having both Select and Premier open.
