[Expired] Chase Pay: Earn 10% Back Or 10x At Shoprite [Last Day]

Deal has expired, view more Chase Pay deals by clicking here.

[Originally posted on 12/31/18. Reposting 1/23/19 as Chase just sent out the email to many people today. It’s the same offer, and it’s available to all, just reposting for increased visibility.]

The Offer

The Fine Print

  • Bonus is limited to $400 in spend per card, if you have multiples of the same card each card can spend $400
  • Bonus points will post to your account within a week of the transaction posting, and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement and be available for use within 1-2 billing cycle

Our Verdict

We saw similar deals last year, even though the last one was supposed to expire at the end of October it had actually been working through the end of December interestingly enough. This deal is available to all cardholders and is not targeted. Gift card purchases work fine and we will be keeping an eye out for gift card deals at Shoprite to stack this with.

anyone know if we can buy vanilla gift cards at shop rite for 10x UR and liquidate at Raise or other gift card shops? I’m assuming we can’t use them for MO’s at local grocery stores

Do Shoprite gift cards work? I do all my grocery shopping there & have about $600 left on spend between two cards.

Yes. Chase doesn’t care what you buy.

If you have a phone that does not use a QR code for Chase Pay but rather NFC (where you bring your phone close to the swipe machine), the “Chase Pay” button at Shoprite WILL NOT WORK. Instead, ask them to treat it like Apple Pay or Samsung Pay. That’ll then bring up a menu on the touch screen — touch “CREDIT” and you’ll be good to go. On the receipt, next to your credit card number, you’ll see “CONTACTLESS”.

Edit: If you click on the little icon on the top right corner, you actually can choose to pay with a QR code.

If you use a Chase Sapphire Res credit card when the 10 points Chase Pay offer is available, and you use Google Pay and NFC at ShopRite will you receive the 10 points per dollar?

I just did this to buy 2 $200 visa gift cards with my freedom. I intended to do it with my wife’s freedom unlimited and plain sapphire, however the cashier stated they impose a $500 daily limit on gift cards. This was not the case at this shoprite one year ago during a similar type of offer. The 10x points posted in a couple days

don’t live in a Shop-Rite area but will be in New York (Long Island) the first weekend in Feb. Just checked my Chase Offers and nothing there for me.

It’s not in Chase Offers. It is available for everyone who has Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited and uses Chase Pay app.
So $400 on each credit card.

Remember that Chase Pay app is picky and wants you to use data and not ShopRite’s free wifi which apparently it considers unsafe.

Easier to buy the gift cards at the customer service counter.
I do that every time now.
There are usually two employees so you don’t hold up the line if something “goes wrong”.

Haha same here. Also some of the cashier lanes at the ShopRites near me apparently don’t have handheld scanners so I’ve learned to look for them before standing in line.

First time I did it this for this offer, the cashier scanned all of my groceries and I went to use Chase Pay before realizing they didn’t have a handheld scanner for the QR code.

Luckily it was a small ~$15 order of food (no GCs) and I didn’t want to hassle them, and I remembered Discover was also doing 5% groceries so I just did that instead. Lesson learned.

I think the $400 is included in the $1,500 bonus category.

Why do you say that? Chase Pay is not part of the 5% category this quarter like it was last time.

Here’s the exact fine print:

“The bonus cash back earned is in addition to the 1% cash back you earn on all purchases not in quarterly bonus categories or after you have spent $1500 in the quarterly bonus categories for a total of 10% cash back”

To me that reads this $400 is NOT included in the $1500 category. I’ll probably take the hit and buy a $200 Visa gc. After the fee it effectively drops the offer to 6.5%, but that’s still better than 5% on drugstores this quarter.

Keep a watch on the weekly ads, last go around of this offer they had $5 off $50+ coupons and gift cards were NOT excluded. I have not seen any recently though. Last time I had to get a manager to override the cashier and front-end supervisor who both told me no after I asked them to show me where on the coupon it said gift cards were excluded. Once the store manager asked them the EXACT same question, they played dumb and stared blankly while he turned the key for the override.

Just tried buying 2 x $200 Visa gift cards at Shoprite today…couldn’t do it. When I used the Chase Pay app to pay, it went through, but only charged me the $13.90 fee for the 2 cards. Would not charge me the $400 for the gift cards. Voided the transaction to get my fee back.

Seems like it won’t work for the Visa gift cards, but it will work for any other specific gift card.

Worked fine for me, although I bought one of the variable amount cards for $190 to avoid going too much over $400. Not sure how the charge would even go through for the fee without the card. Maybe the cashier screwed up? Were you buying the variable card?

I did this two weeks ago when the offer first came out.
Bought two $20-$200 variable load Visa gift cards with Chase Freedom on Chase Pay.

Now I am going to do 2 x $200 with Chase Freedom Unlimited on Chase Pay.
