[Expired] Chase Pay: Earn 10% Back Or 10x At Shoprite [Last Day]

Deal has expired, view more Chase Pay deals by clicking here.

[Originally posted on 12/31/18. Reposting 1/23/19 as Chase just sent out the email to many people today. It’s the same offer, and it’s available to all, just reposting for increased visibility.]

The Offer

The Fine Print

  • Bonus is limited to $400 in spend per card, if you have multiples of the same card each card can spend $400
  • Bonus points will post to your account within a week of the transaction posting, and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement and be available for use within 1-2 billing cycle

Our Verdict

We saw similar deals last year, even though the last one was supposed to expire at the end of October it had actually been working through the end of December interestingly enough. This deal is available to all cardholders and is not targeted. Gift card purchases work fine and we will be keeping an eye out for gift card deals at Shoprite to stack this with.

Jesus Kroger, it’s been a year since you said you’d add chase pay. Where you at?!?!!

Ben
Ben

Used Chase Pay (through Samsung Pay) at Kroger last night with no problems.

well goody gumdrops for you. But that was not the point of the Chase Pay at Kroger announcement over a year ago. Unlike Samsung Pay, with Chase Pay, the core concept is that you’re not chained to one brand of phone, or phones with NFC. I’m with Mr. UPS, Chase and Kroger have badly dropped the ball.

It doesnt make any sense either. Chase actually charges less to process transactions through chase pay compared to using a chip card.

I know this because I opened a chase biz checking account to churn it and they tried to sell me on a credit card reader for my business. The fees for credit cards were 2.75% and the fees for people using chase pay was 2.6%.

I took it for the time being because the reader was free and the fees are the same as using my square reader.

Now of course kroger probably has their own payment processor. But I would have to guess chase would be willing to make a deal with kroger for lower intercharge fees using chase pay.

The only thing kroger would have to do is update their POS system, but maybe thats too expensive.

Plus, updated POS systems are the one of the biggest enemies of people who do MSing since they also usually plug various holes like buying Money orders with gebits while they’re at it.

Maybe its better kroger never adopts chase pay.

If you want to use chase pay everyware, get a galaxy S6 and use it through samsung pay.

The only time I use samsung pay is at kroger because I use a paypal business debit + cashback card combination to get 3% back on everything and if you try to use a debit card at kroger, they will force you to run it as debit (so no 1% back from biz debit). When I use samsung pay, I have the option to press enter and run the transaction as credit so I get the full 3% back.

Thats the only thing I use samsung pay for, to force some POS systems to run my debit card as credit.

no, it didn’t. 10% ended in October. our november shoprite purchases didn’t earn 10%.

I spent $200 using my freedom with chase pay at Shoprite in October and another $200 at the end of November. I only got the extra bonus for the October spend. So I don’t think it actually worked through the end of December.

Same thing for me.

I did not see the 10% for the 2x $100 at ShopRite at the end of November. The purchases were to trigger the $15 and the $20 in future grocery purchases, but no 10%. It was 5% for using Chase Pay.

The 10% worked for me both times Chase offered the promotion.

it only lasted till end of october, 1 month period.

How can you use chase pay at shoprite.com? Is shopritedelivers.com same as shoprite.com? My store only take cash or debate for gift card purchase, even their own gift card.

atexit8
atexit8

I doubt you can use Chase Pay at ShopRiteDelivers.com. At ShopRite, you need the Chase Pay app. It generates a QR code for the cashier to scan when it it is time to pay.

Because I don’t like holding up the line, I buy the gift cards at the customer service counter where there are usually two employees.

I have been able to buy ShopRite gift cards using credit cards.

Beefer
Beefer

You actually can, there is a chase pay button when you go to pay. However, you need a shoprite rewards card to use the website.

They cancelled my order for 2 visa gift cards.

Gcuser
Gcuser

It maybe a good thing they cancelled your order, I double checked T&C, shopritedelivers is excluded.

Abey

Nice. Thanks!

Abey

Can I add to my Chase pay a Chase card that belongs to someone else?

shulem92
shulem92

it works by logging in to your chase account, so if that person is comfortable letting you log in to their account, then by all means

Do Delaware stores have ChasePay now? They didn’t earlier last year.

Ian

Hey, fellow Delawarean! I can’t speak to all ShopRite stores in the state, but, based on personal experience, I know the Newark Chestnut Hill Plaza store *does* accept Chase Pay while the Bear store no longer accepts it.

P D
P D

Thanks. And for gift cards, too?

P D

Confirmed today the Newark/Chestnut Hill takes ChasePay for gift cards. Also bought a $10 Verizon prepaid to see if there’s a way to pay a regular Verizon bill. No luck so far getting it to work. Couldn’t get a good answer online so I just bit the bullet and bought it.

Also confirmed the Newport Pike (Wilmington, DE) store takes ChasePay for gift cards. Actually they had signs for the promotion all over the store.

Bill

Why would a store not accept it? Wouldn’t it be coded into the registers? My biggest complaint about SR and Chase Pay is that their self-scan registers don’t accept it. Fortunately I am able to use it thru Samsung Pay but not everyone can. As atexit8 mentioned, buying a SR gift card is a good way around this.

Fine print does not seem to include the basic chase sapphire card, just the preferred and reserve.

So do you need the offer on chase app? I dont have it and dont want to chance it. Just wasted time with rep on phone. Knows nothing. Help please!!

No, offers needed in the chase app…

Just to add, you can actually use Samsung pay as a method of payment instead of the QR code if you have linked Chase Pay and Spay. Used it’s every time without logging into Chase pay and it worked Everytime.

Bill

I really wish that Chase would email me about these offers so I didn’t have to read about it here!

Harrison

So it’s confirmed Samsung pay through chase pay works?

Bill
Bill

No reason why it shouldn’t given that it posts as a Chase Pay transaction. I doubt that anyone’s transactions from this offer period have posted yet.

Bill

My charges posted. I used it with Samsung Pay and got 10% back.

Does anyone know if Shoprite sells variable amount Visa gift cards? I have 4 cards to do this on and will be away for half of January so I want to get it done quickly, Although Shoprite is my primary grocery store, I already bought a bunch of gift cards when they had the last 10% offer and didn’t use them since I was still getting 5% and figured I’d wait until it ended.

Related question.. anyone have problem paying their GEICO bill with VGC? I assume not but for some reason I could not use my TD Bank gift card at Verizon.com. Worked fine at Verizonwireless.com, although it cost me some of my 5% back from US Bank Cash+ there. I have a car insurance bill coming up in February so I figure buying VGC would be easy to spend there.

bax

20-200 VVGC

Kumar
Kumar

Yes, they do. The max is 200.

Bill
Bill

Thanks, I found that today. Disappointing that I’ll have to pay $13.90 to max out the 10% offer on the card since Stop & Shop sells cards up to $500 for a single card fee. Still worth it to get $40, I guess.

iahphx
iahphx

If you live in Shoprite territory, you’re probably better off just buying $400 in Shoprite GCs and using them for your regular grocery purchases. Shoprite generally has lower prices than their competitors (I’m personally fond of their “meat closeouts” when they sometimes offer high end meat at super cheap prices). I’m always surprised that their Visa/MCs are limited to $200. If they had a $500 for a $5.95 fee like their competitors, buying a GC might make more sense.

Hi, is this targeted offer? Or do I need to option in the offer?
I have bothe freedom and CSR but I did not receive the email.

Thank you

Bill
Bill

Not targeted. I also did not get the email either but it’s still working. Easy enough to verify with a small purchase.

I look forward to repeatedly checking out at ShopRite with cashiers who can’t tell teh difference between Apple, Google, Samsung, and Chase Pay–let alone know how to process payment at point-of-sale.

MisterBill

Just tell them that there is a Chase Pay button to push on the payment screen.

Go to the customer service counter which doubles as lottery sales. LOL.
