[Expired] Chase Pay: Spend $20+ At eBags.com & Get 2,000 Chase UR/$20

This deal has expired and is unfortunately no longer available. Never miss another deal again by signing up for free and instant notifications of new posts.

The Offer

Direct links: Chase Sapphire/Preferred | Freedom

  • Chase has another Chase Pay deal. Spend $20 or more at eBags.com and receive 2,000 Chase UR or $20 depending on the card.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until December 31st, 2017
  • You will receive 2,000 bonus points with this bonus offer, which can be redeemed for $20 cash back.
  • You will qualify for and receive your bonus if you make a Purchase with your credit card at or above the specified target amount during the promotional period. Purchases posted to your account with a transaction date during the offer period are eligible for this offer.
  • Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the transaction date beyond the offer period. Please allow up to 8 weeks after qualifying for bonus points to post to your account. (“Purchases” do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.)
  • Credit card product changes during the promotional period will forfeit this bonus offer. To qualify for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. T
  • Purchases posted to your account with a transaction date during the offer period are eligible for this offer. Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the transaction date beyond the offer period.
  • Offer states: This promotional offer is non-transferable and applies only to the account ending in the last 4 digits referenced in this offer. It’s being advertised on Facebook so not sure how that works.

Referral Program

My referral link

They have a referral program. If you refer a friend they will get $10 off their first order and you will also get $10 off. Keep in mind this requires using a promo code so I assume invalidates portal cash back and also restricts you from using another promo code. My referral link here for those that want to use it. You can share your own links in this linked post.

Our Verdict

I assume this is available on the same cards that the Walmart/Best Buy offers are:

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve (no link for this card currently. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t being offered but might make sense to wait) Not available on the Reserve
  •  Chase Freedom
  •  Chase Freedom Unlimited
  •  Chase Sapphire Preferred

Reader Jennifer Weems found this offer on facebook. Now it’s just a matter of finding some items to maximize this deal with. Best portal rate is 16%.

  • Lowest denomination gift card is $25 (although it looks like you can actually buy a $20 despite this). According to Payments Workshop you’re limited to one GC per order, but can combine multiple GC into a single GC by asking Update: Reps are saying that combining gift cards is not  possible. No guarantee gift cards will work.
  • Free shipping on orders over $49. You can also get free shipping via ShopRunner.

If gift cards count then this is easy money/free eBags credit.

I was dubious too–I trashed my Amex Offers. That said, when I poked around I saw some good travel gear and some nice wallets (mine is almost 25 years old so a nice new one will be my Christmas present). Found at least one resale possibility–a Star Wars rolling suitcase–and I’m sure there is more.

I just bought a Kate Spade purse. Retail $158, used a $50 off coupon, $14 in rewards, and a $96 gift card from a previous return. I paid $3.50 OOP and got cash back on my full purchase price after coupon. I wish i had waited a couple days because I could have gotten the bigger one with this promo.

Found another Chase pay offer while looking at this one. $20 off any “Chase Pay Village” merchant with the chase pay app. Expires today at midnight ET. No mention of min spend.

“Chase Pay Village” is a collection of 20 merchants in the Oculus WTC in NYC through all of Dec, but the offer expires today. I don’t have a link, it’s visible in the app only.

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Normally I like to think I can figure things out, but apparently not here. It does not look like Chase Pay is something I have to sign up for separately from my regular chase.com account. Right? So where exactly can I see the various offers without clicking on the links in this thread? Do I have to use the Chase Pay app to see them, or is there some place to see them with a browser? I have a Chase Freedom card. Thanks!!

Still having issues says call the back of my number for options…I did the wal-mart deal wondering if there is an issue. I have taken advantage of these Chase offers in the past and after requesting the cash back to my bank account last year they slightly raised my APR.

Not trying to create conspiracy theories here, but I wonder if they are going to limit some of these offers to those that did the others.

Matt
Matt

Got this to work, but had to call Chase and wait until they figured out how to unlock my account, just used it at Wal-Mart for the deal the other day, nice to know I’m secure, but sucks calling the bank to do a $50 transaction do better Chase!

A tip if you’re looking for items to buy: When you go to eBags.com, leave the search field at the top of the page blank and push the search button (it looks like a magnifying glass). That will show you all of the products on the site. Then you can sort them by price low to high, so you can easily find items that are exactly $20.

The Value Traveler

Still have problems with my account – Chase Pay®
Please note: Your Chase accounts aren’t eligible for Chase Pay right now. I put in a ticket to Chase to see why this is still happening. I remember someone posted something about this in August and Chase had to do something server side to clear up the mess.

Dan
Dan

Seems like they’ve changed their policy wrt combining gift cards, now they will only combine two cards placed in the same order.

Chuck N
Chuck N

Ebags no longer allowing any combining of giftcards, first reports were only that cards purchased with Amex were excluded, now it seems no GC combining . One rep even resorting to lying about a fictional security breach. “Due to some security breach we are not allowed to combine the gift certificate any more.”

XenaWP
XenaWP

For those wondering if this is targeted: I was also worried that I wasn’t targeted, so I sent Chase a secure message about the offer and asked if I was eligible. Here was their response:

“We’re happy to provide you with information about the
Chase Pay offer on your Chase Freedom account.

Andrew, I see your account ending in XXXX is enrolled in
the Chase Pay eBags.com offer on November 30, 2017 that
need no Opt-in. From December 1, 2017 to December 31,
2017, your account can earn 2000 bonus points equivalent
to $20 cashback when you use Chase Pay and spend a minimum
of $20 at Ebags.com without any period level cap.

We welcome every opportunity to serve you.”

Hopefully this means all cards are eligible!

Anyone get multiple $20 cashback if he/she has multiple Chase CC?

Susan

1)E-gc trigger chase $20 cashback? Meaning i buy a $20 egc and can get it for free after CB?

2) Buying via TCB, does 16% CB work for the egc buying?

3) Then i can use same egc to buy a product (wallet/bag) and get another 16% CB? Meaning double dip?

4) If i have 4 egc of $20 each, can i use all 4 to buy one single order of ether $80 or if more, pay difference via CC after using all 4 coupons?

Please answer all points as it may benefit/help us all

Mike
Mike

I have a lot of experience with eBags. Here is what I know.

1. Gift card should trigger cash back it does with AMEX

2. TCB does not credit EGC purchases

3. No double dip. Buying gets no TCB. Spending EGC will earn TCB.

4. NO, you can only use one EGC per transaction. You also can no longer combine them. Best you can do is buy one EGC for $20 then use it to purchase some thing for $40 with another card. This would get you a $40 item and 2 credits.

Doc’s referral code and Ebags site code (“MERRY”) do not work if you pick an item that already is discounted. I’ve been looking for a good price on a Kelty Redwing 44L hiking bag and Ebags has it for a decent price but I couldn’t get any other discounts to apply. That $10 off for referral would’ve brought the price down to the sweet spot!

One way to buy free item that is more than $20 is to buy $20 GC with one UR earning card. Apply this GC and pay the rest $20 with another UR earning card. That’s worth of $40 of a single item instead of 2 less desirable $20 items. Hope that helps.

how did you guys get shoprunner to work. IME theres never been a min but for some reason I cant use it on an order that’s around $20. did it only work for you guys when you ordered a certain amount say $40 (making use of 2 credits incld first buying an eGC as a separate order)?

cause otherwise getting to $50 for free shipping & then using a ref for $10 off to get order around $40 would make the most sense. it doesnt look like you can combine MERRY code & ref code. hopefully code doesnt invalidate portal but not too concerned about that for now. thoughts?

This seems to be targeted as I also did not get the extra UR for Chase pay on ebags.com. Also, got response from SM:

Hello,

I will review your account about the additional reward

I see that your account ending in xxxx does not

I didn’t inquire via SM if my Freedoms, CSP or CFU had the ebags offer but I used those cards and soon as the charges posted to my accounts, I saw the URs were pending for next statement.

Mimi
Mimi

Prices on ebags keep changing daily, I bought a leather wallet on the 10th for $43.19 and thought $3.19 was a great price and on the 11th, the same wallet went down to $40.49 so I opened chat and the rep didn’t give me a hard time and said the difference would be refunded to me which still makes it $20.49 and won’t affect the threshold amount on the Chase card I used after the $20eGC I used from another ChasePay purchase. I didn’t use a portal because I noticed the prices for same items were much higher if I bought same item via portal. I preferred to get the discount instantly that wait for weeks on TCB if it even tracks properly.

Darv
Darv

I just had the price change on me while I was shopping. Last night I was going to buy the TLS Mother Lode and the website said $65. Figured no big deal I’ll take care of it at my workstation tomorrow rather than in my recliner on my mobile device. Come on today and it says $117. Figured I’d try applying a 30% off coupon and maybe do the Chase Pay promo, but came back a few minutes later and the price went up to $130.

I’ve only been shopping eBags for the past few months but one thing I hate so far is their gimmick sales and dynamic pricing.

So I think the trend seems to be if you use that link from Facebook, you can use any of the Chase cards on your listed Chase Pay account….and if you use the card thats targeted in the email sent to you, you also get that bonus…..just make sure you dont use the same card for the Facebook link AND the targeted link.

John Doe

Bought a $20 eGift Card twice (one paid with Freedom, the other with CSR, both via Chase Pay) and I didn’t get the 2,000 UR Points. Guess it doesn’t work for Gift Card Purchases?

John Doe
John Doe

Alright let me clarify. I did apparently get the 2,000 points on the Freedom Card, and not on the Sapphire Reserve Card. And it’s my bad to not read everything carefully, because on the Promo Page, the Reserve Card is not stated indeed.

However, I called the CSR Hotline and talked and got into a heated argument (at this time, I didn’t realize that CSR was not included) and in the end I got the 2,000 points manually added as a one-time exception. After the call, I carefully went through the Promo Page and the information on this page as well and someone on SD also mentioned that CSR is not included, then I realized it’s my own mistake.

Lesson learned. It’s easy to assume that Sapphire means all the 3 card variants, clearly it’s not.

Dan
Dan

Only freedoms or sapphire gets the credit. NOT the Reserve. Should have read earlier comments.

Technical issue:

Can’t get the Chase pay button on the Ebags checkout page to respond – I click on it, but nothing happens. Have tried on various browsers and mobile with same result.

The Amex and Mastercard checkout options seem to to work fine.

I am outside the U.S, but have tried with VPN. (Of course making sure I’m on the Ebags US site)

Anyone experienced the same or have any ideas?

I just checked out with Chase Pay two transactions. There were a few hiccups, but not your issue.

Rena

I was able to check out using chase pay when I’m buying a gift card. But when I went to buy an item, I couldn’t log into chase pay. What I ended up doing was adding a gift card to my cart, sign into chase pay, remove the gift card and then add the item within the same session (this worked on the second try).

Lisa
Lisa

I bought 2 items one with each chase card. The items are already shipped but now the charges went from pending to completely disappearing from my credit cards. Did that happen to anyone else? I assume they will reappear later.

Dan

Yes, they will come back.

Lisa
Lisa

FYI. From the ebags website, “Unused balances of eBags eGift Cards and Gift Cards will remain active for a period of five [5] years from the date of purchase.”. Five years is a long time, but most gift cards are good for much longer. Might want to keep that in mind if you are holding for an unknown future use.
