Here is the new list of the Pay Yourself Back categories on the Chase Sapphire Reserve card for July, August, and September 2025:
- Grocery stores (excluding Walmart & Target) 1.25 cents per point
- Gas stations 1.25 cents per point
- Home Improvement stores 1.25 cents per point
- Annual Fee 1.25 cents per point
- Select Charities 1.5 cents per point
You can see the previous categories (expired) in this post. Everything stayed the same with the exception of Pet stores which were swapped out for Home Improvement stores this quarter.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business also has PYB, but only has one option: select charities at 1.25 cents per point.
We did a separate post with the Pay Yourself Back categories on all other Chase cards; I assume all of those remain the same for Q3 2025 and beyond.
Wonder if the PYB bonus will go away, after October (when the other changes hit).
Anyone know how long it takes to get the CSR card after approval?
Anyone besides me hoping that they keep these exact categories forever? I would also be okay if they switched out home improvement and put in wholesale instead. 😉
That would be nice
I want to transfer some points from an Ink business card to Preferred.
Does Preferred still have 1.25 cents/point redemption for travel?
yes but dont do that. Transfer to partners is the way
That’s YMMV in my opinion. Not everyone finds that the best use.
True but I have more points than I’ll use. I’ll probably swap out points to cover the AF at 1.25 cents.
I currently have the CSP and Freedom. Can I upgrade to the CSR to take advantage of this 1.25x Pay Yourself Back, then downgrade back to CSP or Freedom? Any way to do this without paying the high CSR fee?
not really, you typically need to hold a product for 1 year/12 months before converting.
I’ve already had the CSP and Freedom for more than 12 months.
But you’re asking if you can downgrade the CSR right away.
In that case, yes, you can. Just don’t make it a practice. You can reverse the product change with 30 days.
I’m not really sure if that’s true? I know that’s accepted when signup up new for a card with a bonus; not sure if that’s true when just doing an upgrade for a few months. IDK
This is incorrect. As long as the account is more than a year old, can product change all you want. OP can very well up into CSR and down back to freedom.
In your first year of holding a card. You can product change up and down afterwards.
Wouldn’t that be a good way to possibly get blacklisted by Chase though? I can’t imagine them being happy if
G were to upgrade to the CSR, make a bunch of purchases and use PYB and then downgrade before paying a single annual fee.
People have regrets. I’ve seen DPs where people use the travel credit and revert. Obviously not something you want to do intentionally or often. But Chase isn’t gonna blacklist you for that just once. It’s not much different from reinstating a closed card because you have regrets.
How soon would the CSR fee post after I upgrade? And would I get a prorated refund if I downgrade it in a month?
I have the Business Reserve and it’s only showing select charities at 1.25. No other categories are listed like the personal Reserve.
Good timing. Starting a reno project soon and this will come in handy.
All I’m seeing for CSR Business PYB is charities at 25%
I’ll add that, thanks
Didn’t the annual fee rate used to be 1.5x?
So did most of the categories. Back when they first rolled it out, when no one was traveling.
many used to be 1.5x
Not since they dropped everything else to 1.25 cents. Since then only the donations to charity category has been at 1.5.
Yes, those were the good old days. I also remember when the travel credit used to work on grocery purchases!
