Our Verdict
Most people redeem Ultimate Rewards for travel, and honestly 10% isn’t all that much either way since you can often buy discounted gift cards on the exchanges for that amount. Still could make sense for a brand on which you find yourself paying full price. But again most people will either prefer to redeem for cash at 1¢ per point or 1.25¢-1.5¢ for travel if you hold the Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve.

This is actually my favorite way to redeem points. I prefer to book direct with airlines and hotels, using their branded card, as that often maximizes points earned and eliminates the middleman if there are any issues.
Like many folks that own a home, I’m going to spend at Home Depot or Lowes eventually. Knocking 10% off my next project is a win for me. YMMV.
