Our Verdict
Most people get much better value by redeeming Chase Ultimate Rewards points for travel, either by transferring points to transfer partners or by using the Chase travel portal ( 1.25¢-1.5¢ for travel if you hold the Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve). Points can also be redeemed for cash at 1¢ per point, where as this gift card offer is effectively 1.11¢ per point. Whole foods might be an interesting option for some people though.
This is a sucker’s play.
Unless Whole Food gets 40% discount it is still expensive. Something that cost $2.99 at walmart or BJ’s is like $5.49 there. I went there twice and could not find a single item that cost within 20% of other stores. I cannot figure out why people shop there.
The prices came down with Amazon. I used to shop there only for specific meat and produce and even though more expensive, still worth it back then. Now some items are even cheaper than my local Meijer. I do think the quality has suffered a little though.
This is a good deal for someone like my sister who just cashes in her points to her bank account.
I’d gladly pay 20% more to shop at Whole Foods than Walmart
Agreed, visited a Whole Foods for the first time after the much publicized Amazon discount, only to find the Organic produce and meats they sell cost twice as much compared to my Kroger and Safeway. Their selection and freshness were poor as well. I don’t get the fuss either, maybe they’re only cheaper in a few select cities.
I buy some produce there because it’s 10-20% more but way better than the sad garbage at the normal stores. I’ll die before I spend $4 on a regular gallon of milk though.
There are much better way of getting same or better value gift cards for these elsewhere than using up UR. For example, Cash app’s Cash Card give you 10% off Whole Foods purchases.
