Our Verdict
Seems to be a monthly thing Chase is doing at the moment. Probably not worth considering for most people, especially for anybody with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve due to the new ‘Pay Yourself Back‘ feature.
I got Safeway last month for 10% discount on gas cards, Lowe’s, eBay, Amazon, etc. My Safeway was hard-coded to exclude Visa, Mastercard, and Safeway gift cards, but other GCs all went through. However, I’ll be saving my points now that I’m under 5/24.
You meant you were able to use a Safeway gift card to purchase other gift cards?
So long as other gift cards were not VGC, MCGC, or Safeway GC, yes. Hindsight, I’d do better than 10% (20%/33%) with CSP/CSR buying directly from Safeway and Lowe’s.
So, can I buy a $100 Home Depot gift card for $90 using CSR and pay back with $90 worth of points?
Just check it out by login to UR portal. There could be different offers for different account holders.
No, because the Home Depot gift card purchase would be through the UR portal with points so there wouldn’t be a transaction to pay yourself back with. I think it’d be better to go to Home Depot and buy a $100 gift card with your CSR and then pay with about 6700 points.
No – this deal is buying GC’s for points. You’re thinking of the pay back features where you buy them at a grocery store, then pay back with points (which is a better deal).
