Chicago To Impose 14 Day Quarantine For Those Returning/Entering From 17 States

Update 7/15/20: Starting Friday Iowa and Oklahoma will be added to the list of states. Hat tip to Dans Deals

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced that starting Monday July 6th, 2020 travelers entering or returning Chicago from one of 15 states that are experiencing COVID-19 spikes will be required to quarantine for a period of 14 days if they spent more than 24 hours in an affected state.

This seems similar to the introduction by NY, NJ & CT. The 14 day period begins fro the time of last contact within the designated states. Those breaking the order will be subject to fines of $100 – $500 per day, up to a maxmum of $7,000. The following states are currently listed:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Nevada
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah

If a state has more than 15 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 resident population per day over a 7 day rolling average they are designated as a listed state.

I’d love for Wisconsin to have a mandatory quarantine for people from Chicago. They come to Wisconsin every chance they get. I’ll admit that Illinois doesn’t have much to do in terms of summer activities unless you like standing in knee-high corn fields.

No mention of protesters not wearing masks. But thats ok. Oh. No need to cancel NYC marathon..just give them all BLM t shirts and ok for the marathon. Cuomo and De Blasio will love it then.

Whatever logic you applied that put you on a pedestal looking down on anyone on this site is flawed to the point of being offensive. If you’re not familiar with Dunning-Kruger, you might want to do some research. Or don’t, if you value your bliss.

Is Illinois going to have road blocks setup at all the roads leading into the state? How can they possibly enforce this?

Chicago is not Illinois, despite what they like to think. 🙂

Fair enough. Will Chicago be putting up road blocks then?

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did. But I think they’re just posturing and will maybe tell people who fly in from those cities. We’re not like Hawaii where 99% of people come through the airports. Can’t really enforce it.

My point exactly. Just another law that’s impossible to enforce. Don’t see the point except to stick their tongue out at those states.

I think the USA is the only country that didn’t handle the coronavirus situation federally. It’s every state for themselves which is why everything is a total disaster. Same reason Brazil is screwed up. No federal mandates, nothing but a free for all.

What’s even worse is that some states still don’t have state-wide mandates either, which means that individual counties and municipalities are also fending for themselves. God help you and your city if your elected officials don’t think COVID “is that bad yet” in your area.

I’m confused. You say you think USA is the only country that didn’t handle this federally, and that it’s the same reason Brazil is screwed up. That doesn’t make sense. Or do you believe that Brazil is part of the USA?

As of July 2 Arizona is down to 9% of its available intensive care unit beds (156 beds remaining).

Thom get with the program. You must think and speak as the young tolerant communists in this country tell you too. If not you will be sent to re-education (gender studies class) before being allowed to travel again.

We all had advanced knowledge. It’s not like they issued the stay at home order the day of, we knew even before the wife and kids took off to Florida. Probably took off because of the backlash of the stay at home order but that’s just my guess based on reactions to it, not the news.

Blue states/cities should quarantine visitors from red states… before, during, and after coronavirus.

Sounds like a good idea. As badly as it all went for blue states/cities with the riots and the virus. The rest states have a lot of ground to make up.

Good! I’m glad! It’s a good start and I hope the governor follows through with a statewide order next.

Illinoisans, by and large, complied with the shelter in place orders. Except for a few windbag republicans downstate and in the republican heavy collar counties. I don’t want this to be political but it is what it is.

The overwhelming majority of us are behind the mayor and governor. It’s why Illinois has been doing better than most states.

Sadly, Illinois also joined the list of states where new infections are creeping back up….but that’s a recent development and it’s not an uncontrolled wildfire like in states that never shut down or reopened too soon, like Indiana. So hopefully we can continue doing the right thing and limit the spread and the suffering.

Ok, what? Indiana is not experiencing an “uncontrolled wildfire”. When you cherry-pick states to fit your agenda, you might want to choose the right ones.

Doesn’t your mayor have a violence problem to deal with that has nothing to do with the police they want to de-fund?

I’m sorry, but that is simply not true. I live in Chicagoland, and I have not seen many masks around here. No social distancing either.

Strange. Where are you in Chicagoland? I’m in the northwest suburbs, and in the past two months I’ve been a lot of places, probably too many, Costco, Walmart, Jewel, trader Joe’s, Dollar tree, home Depot, Menards, etc., and I’ve seen not a single person not in a mask. Zero. Doesn’t happen. You don’t go anywhere inside in public without a mask. It just isn’t done. Some places, like Menards, even have an enforcer by the door to refuse entry to anyone unmasked. I’m wondering if I’m living in a bubble.
