Citi Adds Two More ThankYou Point Airline Partners (Malaysia + AirFrance/KLM)

In July Citi Bank announced that ThankYou points would be transferable to 7 different airline partners (along with Hilton HHonors which has been a partner for awhile now). They’ve also just announced two new airline additions.

New Additions

Below are the two new additions, you can now transfer to these loyalty programs if you have ThankYou points (must transfer a minimum of 1,000 points at a time and must have a Chairman, Prestige or ThankYou Premier card). Click the links below to be taken to the award chart for that airline.

Full List Of Transfer Partners

Hotel:

  • Hilton: 1:1.5 transfer (e.g 1,000 ThankYou points = 1,500 Hilton points)

Airlines:

All of the airline programs have a 1:1 transfer rate. This means that you’ll receive 1,000 airline miles if you exchange 1,000 Citi ThankYou points.

  • AirFrance-KLM Flying Blue
  • Asia Miles
  • EVA Air Infinity MileageLands
  • Etihad Guest
  • Garuda Indonesia Frequent Flyer
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus

Our Verdict

It’s always good to have more choice in transfer partners, I haven’t look in depth at enough of the award charts of the airlines that Citi have partnered with but it’s something I plan to investigate further to try to find any sweet spots. I won’t be going out of my way to earn ThankYou points but it’s nice to know that if I do end up with some that there is some flexibility.

Also I thought it was worth noting that Citi contacted me directly to cover this change (although they didn’t contact me when they first added airline transfer partners and no compensation was provided). They’ve also offered to provide an interview with Ralph Andretta who is head of Product Management.

If you’d like me to ask Ralph any specific questions, please let me know what they are in the comments section below or on twitter. I’ll also be interviewing a VP from Capital One, so feel free to ask any questions you have from them (don’t worry, I’ll certainly ask them why they pull all three bureaus) below or on twitter as well.

If your a bank/financial institution and would like to give an interview, you can always do so by using the contact us page.

Ask them if they love or hate (or somewhere in between) blogs like yours? What do they think about ppl that do MS and try to maximize rewards?

Suggestion rather than question: go after Avianca — Citibank actually has a pretty strong retail presence in Colombia.
