Our Verdict
Keep in mind you can get a 60,000 mile bonus and then get that matched to 75,000 miles. 35,000 miles is easily better than $200 statement credit, especially when you need to make American Airlines purchases to get that credit. We also saw a similar deal for 50,000 miles + $100 statement credit recently. Only way either deal would be better was if Citi matched this statement credit offer to 75,000 miles as well, somehow I don’t think Citi will do that. As always make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi cards before applying for any Citi card.
Hat tip to reader YC
I note the $200 statement credit is still offered when booking a flight on aa.com. Or try this link: https://secure.fly.aa.com/citi/bp-plat-choose
Offer is gone. Link is showing 60000 miles after $3000 spend.
If you go to AA and try booking a flight (not paying for it yet), it gives you this option and a link. That’s where I found this offer…
My proudest moment to find an offer that isn’t on this page yet ;D
I always prefer offers with a $ credit on top of miles, kind of a risk mitigation against inevitable devaluations and mileage hardships.
Any reason why you couldn’t match this to the 75k offer?
I was able to do the 50k miles and 100 credit then get it matched to a 65k mailer I got shortly after. However; they made me photo copy the mailer and send it to them before they would match so I’d guess ymmv situation
Usually they won’t if it has the statement credit attached
How did you generate the offer in the screenshot for $2k spend? The link brings me to a $3k spend.
Edit: Nevermind, the link above is taking me to the 60k/3k offer.
Odd, it was showing the other offer before…
If you assume AA miles are worth 1.4 cpm then the $200 credit is roughly worth 14,000 miles. You’d need a match of more than 20K for this to be better which seems plausible if unlikely.
