Our Verdict
Previously the best deal would be to get 40,000 miles + $250 statement credit and then match that offer to 60,000 miles (for a total of 60,000 miles + $250 statement credit) but that is no longer possible. Citi did just offer 75,000 miles recently though. Because a better offer was so recently offered I won’t be adding this to our best credit card bonus page.
Before applying or asking basic questions in the comments make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi cards here. Also keep in mind this offer contains the following language:
- This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® card. Statement credit and bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 48 months
So bad idea to get both 1) AA miles sign up bonus with a Citi personal card and then 2) get AA miles sign up bonus with a Barclays personal card within a 2-year period? AA will consider that abuse?
it’s a trap!
Wasn’t aware of the 48 month rule. Really disappointing as you’d think the airlines would want people buying into the currency as much as possible. Had this card until 2019 so that’s out the window. Shame cuz it’s a nice high offer although the MSR if I’m not mistaken.
I doesn’t matter UNTIL WHEN you had the last card. It matters when you got the signup bonus for your previous card. That’s what the 48 months is counted from:
Offer availability
American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® account in the past 48 months.
You’re right of course, although my implication was that I had opened the card 12 months prior, so I’m still quite a ways from the 48 month window from my SUB. I doubt most people used to hold these cards longer than 12 months given how easy it was to get the same benefits from other card families.
Also there’s a typo in my original comment, it should read the MSR *is higher
Fortunately, last June, I was able to go RT SAN=>HND in JAL First Class using AA miles and Alaska miles. Ever since the grAAvy train carpet bomb (included those without mailers), I am staying away from any AA miles. In any event, the new 48 month rule is a show stopper in it’s self.
Would be a good deal to combine the miles bonus https://thepointsguy.com/news/american-buy-miles-promo/ with this card
Buying 150,000 miles at 1.6cpp yea, that gets you 300,000 miles for $4800, what a deal. I guess you get 70,000 on top of that, from the sign up bonus, but there’s other ways to spend $4000….
stay away unless it has been 2 years or more since your last any AA credit card application.
Card issuer may approve you but AA WILL shut down and cancel your advantage account if they think you are applying and getting bonuses regularly.
fuck AA
What if I currently have a personal card – is it ok to apply for business card? Thanks
