Citi American Airlines 75,000 Miles Business Offer

Update 10/6/19: Updated with working application link.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • CitiBusiness American Airlines Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard is offering 75,000 American Airlines miles after you spend $5,000 within the first five months.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $99 is waived the first year
  • Contains one American Airlines bonus per 48 month language

Our Verdict

Previously I’ve recommended waiting for a 40,000 miles + $250 statement credit offer, you could then match that and get another 20,000 miles basically making the offer 60,000 miles + $250. Citi isn’t really allowing you to match bonuses like that anymore, so I actually think this offer is much better than it once was. Because of that I will be adding this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

Before applying or asking basic questions in the comments make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi cards here. Also keep in mind this offer contains the following language:

  • This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® card. Statement credit and bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 48 months

We discuss this in more detail here.

Thank you doctor! Two questions:

1. Does Barclay’s Business Aviator has any bearing on this card, in regard to bonus?

2. Could one has two of this business card if they are applied 24 months apart?

I think it is 48 months now. Not 24 months anymore.

Huge typo? Citi moved to the 48 month rule recently for bonuses

DoC, the language from above link “American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® account in the past 48 months.”

I think all Citi AA cards have standard 48 months language. Is there a way to get 24 months or less condition for the bonus?

DDG

it’s 48 months

Note that you can no longer downgrade CitiBusiness cards either. So this one is a keep or close.

Anyway I can check when was the last time I had a citiadvantage card? I’ve churned so many cards biz/personal I don’t remember 24 months etc

The 24 months is an error in the post above. If you click on the link, you’ll see that It’s actually 48 months since you last got the signup bonus on a Citi AA biz card. And as far as I know, there’s no way to check if you didn’t keep records of any sort, because AA doesn’t let you see activity that far back (2 years is the limit at AA). I suggest you go to AA.com RIGHT NOW and get it show all of your activity in the past 2 years and save that output, and then at least you’ll know what signup bonus you earned in the past 2 years, and that might help you in a couple years with this new 48 month rule. And meanwhile, start keeping records of all your credit card opening, closings, and bonus postings, because you never know which bank will change the rules how and thus which of these you’ll need to know in the future.

citi business now requires more documents such as proof of address, income verification (sometimes) and cant have closed citi business card in last 6 months and no current citi business card opened.

Charlie
Charlie

How recent is this? My last app was end of August with approval no questions asked. Used a targeted mailer tho.

Jessica

happened to me on Monday. happened to my dad the month before. I guess YMMV…

SideShowBob233
SideShowBob233

YMMV. Closed two AA biz cards (open 3 and 6 months respectively) about a week before applying again via mailer in mid-September and was approved after verifying identity via text.

Just recalled that I did have to do this also. I had applied from out of country so just chalked it up to IP address flagging out of country and wanted text verification I actually put in the app.

This is incorrect. Applied and approved for 3 Citi AA Biz cards in the last 9 months.

ok, well thats literally what the citi rep told me. So it may just be YMMV

Just got approved last night 10/3/19 instantly for an Aadvantage business offer from a mailer. I closed a citi aadvantage business card 4 months agoish. This was a no lifetime limitation mailer.

I opened this account in January 2019 prior to the 48 month language. Can I open another account through this public offer or does it need to be done through a mailer?

David
David

No, the language is for new account, has nothing to do what was the language when you opened your old account

sdsearch

Only a mailer that doesn’t have such language would work.

This offer has the 48month language so you’re not eligible

Anyone else got error “A system error has caused a delay in processing your application.”?

Yeah, I got the same error. I wonder if that’s because I closed the non-business version of this card back in December…

The link said “Limited Time Offer”, I will clear the 48 months requirement by December. I wonder if how long does Citi “Limited Time Offer” last.

Why should I stop if I have the chance.?

I actually reached out to Citi support via chat yesterday to ask them to match my 60k offer to 70k. This is the response I got:

“Sure, we will definitely help you with matching the offer.. For this you need to send a screenshot or image of the offer you are requesting to match up at CitiAAL@citi.com. Once you send the email to the team they will review your account and if it is approved you will hear back from us within 7-10 business days.”

Sent the e-mail yesterday with the screenshots and awaiting a response.

I was told via chat I will be matched and I will hear back from them in 7 days

S/J. Is this your first citi AA biz card or are you deep into the train. Reason is I have seen people worried about putting eyes on the account if they are trying to bypass the 48 month rule and having the bonus taken back.

Joe

First AA biz so I’m not worried…

Same, this is also my first

Does the 48 month rule apply to only Business cards? I have never had this card before but I have had the AA personal in the last 2 years or so.

sdsearch

That’s easy to determine for yourself. Just search “Citi AA credit cards”, and you immediately get this link:

https://citicards.citi.com/usc/LPACA/AA/AAdvantage/Family/ps/index.html

and on that page there’s a button where you can see the offer terms for each card. Certainly the “main” AA personal card says that, you can check the others if you wish.

The business card says exactly: “American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® account in the past 48 months.” HOW TO READ THIS: IGNORE SLASHES. The slash (/) after CitiBusiness does NOT mean “or”, it’s just how Citi likes to confusingly name their cards, by throwing slashes in here or there. Once you know that, it’s easy to interpret for yourself.

But please note: More changed than 24 vs 48! It used to be 24 since OPEN OR CLOSE, now it’s 48 since SIGNUP BONUS earned. And it used to be 24 since open or close of ANY CARD in the family (personal vs business being the two families), but now the 48 is for EACH CARD SEPARATELY. So the 24 months used to lock you out of MileUp, Platinum, and Executive, but the 48 is separate for each of those.

So you need to pay attention to the details, NOT JUST the number of months.

And you need to read it each time you’re applying, because who knows when they might change this again in some way with no warning.
