Citi AT&T Unavailable for Signups, Time to Product Change?

The AT&T Access More credit card from Citi is currently unavailable for signup online or over the phone.

Beginning a couple of months ago, the card stopped showing on the Citi site, but it was still accessible via the AT&T site. At the bottom right-hand corner of the homepage at att.com, there’s a link for the Access More credit card and that link was working. Until yesterday. Now, that link eventually results in an error message.

Most seem to think that the card will be discontinued. I’m a bit skeptical if that’s true; it seems odd that they’d neuter a new partnership completely instead of just tweaking things that they felt needed to be changed.

In any case, if you are interested in the card for its ongoing reward structure, it could make sense to product change a different Citi card into an AT&T card in case it does get discontinued. You’ll lose out on the signup bonus, but you’ll get the card.

There have been recent reports of the Double Cash being able to convert into an AT&T card and the Diamond Preferred as well. Other cards should work as well, and certainly another ThankYou card.

Here are a few rules about Citi conversions taken from our post Best Downgrade Options & Rules For Each Card Issuer.

  • Card must be at least twelve months old before downgrading.
  • Conversions can take up to 51 days (this is usually done much sooner).
  • Some representatives will say that product changes must be done within the same product family (e.g. an American Airline card must be downgraded to another AA card). This is not the case, rather than arguing hang up and call again.

Do you know if I could product change from the Citi Hilton Honors card (no annual fee version) to the AT&T card Access More card.

Is it possible to product change a Citi AAdvantage Business card to the Access More card? I know Chase doesn’t like to convert Business cards to personal but does Citi ever have a problem with it?

I see no point to keep the card. I had some issues with CS, so would like to close it ASAP. I already spent 2000 on the card (800 for a phone and 1200 for other purchases). Can I close it immediately after receiving the signup bonus? Any consequences?

CS said that the AF can be prorated. Not sure if it true due to CS supplied be with a lot of confusing information. First, they said that AF will be charged next year, than they said that it is not true, but I can do product change or close the card and get the fee prorated, finally they indicated that PC is not possible due to I have a card less than 12 month.

Dang. To think I wanted to apply for this card this week too. Oh well, I probably wasn’t going to get accepted anyways. Haven’t gotten a Citi card yet even I applied to several of their’s lately…

Do we think it’s possible to change a Business card like the Citi AAdvantage Business card to the AT&T Access More?

Was on board until I realized that they require 12 months of account history before downgrading. I’m about 9 months in so it looks like I’m SOL.

Hypothetically speaking then, what happens to current cardholders if a product is discontinued? Can we keep the card with the current benefits (eg bonus points for certain categories)? or do we keep current card but lose current benefits? Or are we force-switched into a different card product? And what if we’ve earned the signup bonus ($650 credit for AT&T phone) but haven’t yet used it? Can they null that signup bonus before its use? Concerning scenario, given that current cardholders have already ‘paid’ for the card with a hard credit pull (actually 2 credit pulls once you activate an account with AT&T).
