[Expired] Citi Cards: Get $30 Statement Credit when Spending 3 x $30 at Paypal or Amazon [Targeted]

Deal has expired, view more Amazon deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Citi is sending out an email offer today on various cards:

  • Receive a $30 statement credit after you make at least three purchases of $30 or more each at Amazon.com with your Citi credit card.
  • Receive a $30 statement credit after you make at least three purchases of $30 or more each using Paypal with your Citi credit card.
  • Get 5% back on Amazon purchases, up to $25 back.

The first offer is very common on Prestige cards, along with some others. The last cash offer is common on Simplicity and Dividend.

The Fine Print

  • Your purchases must post to your account between 11/14/2018 and 12/31/2018.
  • The statement credit will be applied to your account within 2 billing cycles after the eligible purchases are posted.
  • In order to qualify for this offer, the account must be open and current at all times. If your account is closed for any reason, including if you convert to another card product, you may no longer be eligible for this offer.

Our Verdict

Pleasant surprise here. Offer seems to be widely available but not for everyone, at least not yet. Hard to imagine a world where spending 3 x $30 on Amazon and getting $30 back isn’t a win. Lock it in by purchasing 3 $30 gift cards or doing 3 $30 gift card reloads. (Those are our affiliate links. Thanks, as always, to all those who go out of their way to support the site.)

I made two $30 purchases on November 20 and one $30 purchase on November 21 via my linked card to Paypal. Since then, I have had two billing cycles end. Needless to say, I have not received the credit on my account. I tried calling Citi, but they told me that it could take until February, as the promotion ended on December 31 (even though the terms say it is two billing cycles from the date of the transactions posting). This is frustrating, considering others have gotten the credit on their accounts.

I got the paypal offer through citi double cash card. I am assuming that Citibank wants you to use your Citibank card in an online purchase at ebay. I got the paypal debit card thinking I could buy almost anything anywhere with it but it cant be directly linked to a credit card for spending – only a bank account or debit card. I would think that the offer would not hold if I just bought 3x$30 using my paypal debit card and taking money from my paypal balance even though I do in fact have my Citibank card linked to the account. Has anybody tried this? Otherwise the best I could find was Shell gascards for sale on ebay for $54.95 apiece for $50.00 of gas. That would cut the $30.00 reward in half.

I don’t understand the credit card linking. The $90 just comes from your Paypal balance doesn’t it – the “linked” citicard doesn’t get used does it?

Anyone find a creative way to make 3 x $30 purchases with PayPal yet? I want to cash in on this deal by turning the required spend to cash.

I got the paypal but not the amazon. Any efficient ways to spend $30 x3 and get the $30 back for the paypal option?

I also got the Paypal option, but I see Amazon does not accept Paypal.
