Our Verdict

Citi has never offered a transfer bonus to Flying Blue, but you can view other transfer bonuses they have offered before here. American Express recently had a 25% transfer bonus. Flying Blue made some major changes to the program on June 1st, 2018. The best value deals are still the monthly discounts they have, for example currently you can get 50% off certain routes to Europe. Unfortunately the high fees and taxes kill the deal for most people.

At least on J the taxes and fees TATL are less than VS/BA/LH they actually aren’t that crazy but yeah still high. However the real deal breaker now is that Flying Blue (FB) has out Delta’ed Delta and got rid of their awards chart but it is even worse. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to their pricing now. Awards can vary by six figures for the same route within the same week and it has no seemingly relationship to underlying cash fares, seat availability or to anything else. Also they killed their calendar search function so you are forced to search day bay day and due to other website issues this is even more painful than it needs to be. However if you can find a cheap TATL award I think you’d be talking around 46k TYP for J one way which isn’t bad. I would only jump on this if you can find a decent award and TYP transfers (near) instantly so you can book it quickly. Also note that non-elites cannot book F even though the website will show it to you.

It’s now among the worst programs.

Agreed which is unfortunate since they partner with so many different transferable currencies. I also forgot to add one more bit of craziness which is that it is now common to see Y awards than cost more than J and J awards that cost more than F. It really makes absolutely no sense.
