The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Citi are offering a 50% transfer bonus when you transfer your Citi ThankYou points to Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles program. Normally you can transfer 1,000 Citi ThankYou points and receive 1,000 Miles & Smiles and with this transfer bonus that changes to 1,500 Miles & Smiles.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until June 15th, 2024

Our Verdict

Previous best transfer bonus was 25%. For a full list of other transfer bonuses Citi has offered, click here. Unfortunately Turkish miles aren’t as valuable as they once were.

I can still see it here. But actually I just got the bonus miles credited yesterday.

When did you transfer Citi point to Miles&Smiles? Just want to see how long it takes for the bonus miles to post. There is a thread on FlyerTalk from many people who did the transfer on June 14/ June 15 but still have not gotten the bonus now that the promotion ended.

It seems Turkish airline is part of the star alliance and partner airlines. How does one go about “redeeming” award flights on the star alliance program. Do I call them and have the flight information / date and ask agent to deduct points from my account? How does fee tax/fees apply?

Ex: I’m eyeing a flight with Lifemiles and they are also part of the star alliance. Their point is 47K + 5$. If I transfer points to Turkish airline, NA -> Far east is 55K pts, but if fee structure is different, I may not get value out of this. TIA

It’s a horribly Byzantine process unless it happens to show in the very iffy star awards search on the Turkish site. You can do a search to dig in but the basic summary is “it’s a pain to the point you may not want to consider it”

Also worth noting that max bonus is 50k miles, so you only get extra 50% when transferring 100k TY points or less.

It could be worth elaborating how the transfer works in this case. When transferring Citi to TK you wont see any language for 50% bonus. Citi txr screens show 1000 gets 1000. Turkish will add 500 (50%) directly in the Turkish account after a certain date, I think on/after June 15th.

You should note this important detail:

  • The Miles earned during the campaign will be credited after the campaign has ended.

Collective wisdom is that you should only transfer points when you have definite plans to use them.

Thanks. I transfrred points to Turkish before, as I remember it costed a lot of points, I almost gave up and used cash instead, but with 50% bonus, it is worth considering, unless they have devalued the miles further lately. I have about 120k points parked in Citi premier card, have been considering cancel/downgrade the card to save AF, this bonus offer may be a good exit for me, but looks like they only allow 50k, I stll have about half left with my Citi TYP.

The wrinkle here being one often needs to email Turkish to identify many itineraries and one could imagine playing this back and forth and transferring miles only to have the seats themselves become unavailable by the time they post and Turkish tries to act on your instructions.

Turkish miles also expire too, so that’s a further wrinkle.

Double the cost of almost everything and make a 50% bonus.. good business.

I believe in this case, the bonus is actually offered by Turkish, not Citi. You can find the details here: https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-us/miles-and-smiles/campaigns/get-50-percent-extra-miles
