Our Verdict

I’d recommend against applying for this offer/card. They have recently offered 50,000 points on this card and if you apply now you won’t be eligible for another bonus on this card, the Preferred or the Prestige for another 24 months (and if you cancel this card it will reset that 24 month clock). I’d recommend waiting for a better offer instead.

I get confused with open/closed language. Open comes before closing. In case, the card is not currently active, meaning it was opened and closed, the 24 month period starts from the date it was closed. Can someone clarify this for once to me? Doctor??

After you open a TY card you are not eligible for another bonus on any TY card within next 24 months. If the card STAYS open, then in 24 months you are eligible for another bonus on another TY card. If you close the card the 24 months clock resets. Need to wait to get another bonus on any TY card.

That is in short. Pls read the detailed post “things you need to knoe about Citi” in DOCs knowledge base.

Good luck.

is that how CSP works too? Mine is about to turn 1 year soon and i planned on changing it to a second freedom before the annual fee (already have freedom and unlimited). So i guess it would be better to pay the annual fee and keep it open so i can get a new CSP after 12 months?

Actually i remember Chase now only allows 1 card per person, if thats true does it mean that to be eligible for a new CSP i am pretty much forced to close this account and wait 24 months because i already have all their other cards?

Now I’m concerned. Unlike most people with Citi Hilton cards, my account is staying with Citi and becoming a ThankYou Preferred when the 30th rolls around (apparently AmEx doesn’t like the fact that I’ve got a couple of late payments on the account). Depending on the definition of “opened or closed” it seems like I might miss out on this 30k bonus simply because it’s in the same family. I know people here are going to tell me the silver lining is that I can go for a new AmEx Hilton card, but ThankYou points transfer to airlines, which I also like. So, do I wait for a 50k offer and hope for the best, or make a pre-emotive strike and go for the 30k offer now…?
