CLEAR Allowing Memberships To Be Extended For Three Months (Extended Again)

Update 5/28/20: CLEAR is now offering a three month extension instead of allowing it to be paused for three months.

Original post: Not many people are traveling currently, meaning that programs such as CLEAR aren’t very useful (CLEAR makes it easier and quicker to get through airport security lanes at select airports). There is no point in paying for a service you don’t use and CLEAR is allowing members to pause their membership for up to three months. Unfortunately you need to call in to do this, but now is the perfect time to reduce expenses where ever possible.

mine shows 2 months extension, not to complain though, I cannot remember how many times I’ve extended it and also have used it a few times in the past year

Used Clear from ATL to JFK a couple of weeks ago. All I can say is wow. The kiosk had some issues during the initial registration, but once we got it, it was simple. Clear puts you at the front of the TSA pre-check line. Atlanta TSA agents still made us take our shoes off and take out our laptops. However, on the way back from JFK, TSA-Pre-check allowed us to keep our shoes on and keep our laptops in our bags.

If you have the AMEX green card, it is a no-brainer. As a videographer, this is going to reduce so much stress during traveling.

Extended two or three times during the pandemic. But finally expired back in May. The rep said there was nothing they could do. Told me to come back next time I’m flying to ask for a few trial. Just bad timing.

 William Charles  Chuck Membership was set to expire in August and received a 2 month extension today by chatting with a rep. This was my third extension.

I chatted to try to extend it a third time and was told I need to wait until the day before it’s due to expire (in March), at which point I can chat them again and they’ll extend it 3 more months.

I paused my membership for 3 months back in June and then did another 3 month pause in august. I just asked again today and they refused to pause my membership anymore noting that they’ve already paused my membership for 6 months.

I just chatted with CLEAR on clearme.com and asked for an extension again. Even though they said no last November, this time they did give me a 3 month extension!

To summarize, I got a 3-month extension in June 2020. Another 3-month extension in August 2020. And another 3-month extension just now in January 2020.

I did this via chat, and they said, “We are offering a 3 months extension if one has not already been granted… I do see you accepted an extension back in April. I can add one more extension of 3 months as a coutersey . However this will be your last extension for a 12 month period.”

Interestingly, they extended my expiration date 15 months instead of 3. We’ll see if that sticks. All this free CLEAR that originated from the promo code DoC posted in August 2019. Not too shabby! Too bad I won’t be traveling nearly as much as I thought I would.

P2 chatted and they updated hers to expire 4 months from today (was going to expire in a couple weeks) instead of simply adding 3 months to the end, so clearly (ha, CLEARly) this is a manual process and I think my 15-month extension was a fat-fingered mistake and it’ll stick.

Unlike with mine, they turned her auto-renew back on without any notification of that change, so anyone who requests the extension should make sure their auto-renew wasn’t turned back on!

I called them today & because I hadn’t requested the freeze earlier in 2020 or received any prior extension they went ahead and approved a 6 month extension to my membership.
