Credit Card Issuers And Other Companies Offering To Waive Late Fees Upon Individual Request

As reported yesterday, Apple Card customers can request this month a waiver for late fees and minimum payment through the automated system. Other banks are stepping up as well.

Via TPG, American Express is waiving fees upon request which can be initiated here through the American Express Financial Hardship initiative. HOWEVER, your card and points will be frozen until you make a payment.

Via Bankrate, most other banks also have similar programs where you might be  get fee waivers up on request. You can call the number on the back of the card to make that request.

Apple Card is the only one who has an automated system to request, whereas each of the other companies manually review each circumstance to decide if/how to apply fee waivers.

On a similar vein, via NBCNews, many utility and communications companies have pledged not to shut off anyone’s service through this difficult time. Hopefully some of them will waive late fees as well.

I don’t think it’s right to take advantage of any of these offers for someone who does not need to. There are lots of people who are really hurting now, and these offers should be reserved for them.

By calling them, you will be on the list of high-risk card holders. Lol

Chuck, any news on banks extending CC sign-up bonus time limits? As you can imagine, we’re not doing much shopping these days.

Are they going to report to the credit bureau? That hurts more.

This. Nice gesture from the card companies but are bureaus just as forgiving?

My company mailed a free roll of toilet paper.

Very glad they are always looking out for me.

My company mailed me a letter that I could use to wipe my ass with. Gotta make do with what I have, during these tough times.

This would be necessary at some point.

It’s a nice step. Although it doesn’t say they will waive or reduce the interest rate…even though you want to avoid carrying a credit card balance.

Citi Business suppressed a late fee for me yesterday.
