  • Delta has another flash sale, this time round trip to Sydney, Australia (SYD) from selected airports for 50,000 miles + taxes/fees (~$110). U.S. Airports are: Atlanta, GA (ATL), Boston, MA (BOS), Seattle, Washington (SEA), New York-Kennedy, NY (JFK), Portland, OR (PDX). Book by August 22nd for travel from August 23rd until December 9th, 2018.

Our Verdict

Taxes and fees seem to be $116. Flights aren’t short at 26 or so hours. I have no  idea what standard pricing is, but 50,000 miles round trip to Australia sounds cheap to me? Delta flash sales have been getting recently.

You can put a bullet in me before I sit in coach for that long.

That’s a great deal. I paid 80k + $56 RT LAX-SYD on United (15 hour flight).

Flew a different airline Dallas-Syd a few months back, I was up front but coach was 1/3 or more empty. Flight attendants told me they cannot fill up coach due to length of flight/weight/fuel. So they don’t sell all the coach seats. Might make it more palatable if you knew that there was probably going to be an empty seat between you and travel partner

It’s split up into two segments or more, so it’s not too bad. If you’re going from JFK or BOS you end up flying 6 hours to LAX, a 4.5 hour layover, and then the last 15 or so to SYD.

I flew a nonstop from JFK to HNL once and that was 13 hours. I hadn’t slept the night before, so ended up passing out on the plane, which I think helped a lot.

The flight there was full, but the flight back was very empty, so everyone who wanted could have a full three seats to themselves and the FAs didn’t bother anyone for laying flat sideways. That was much nicer than leaning against a window the entire time, but neither was too bad.
