Do people really buy gc for 5% discount? There is always a risk using GCs. And we all have credit cards give at least 3/4%.
I guess you could use a 2-3% card on ebay and effectively save 8% but yeah much better deals to be found then most of the ones posted here.
What I never understood were the ones that are listed at higher than face value. One has to explain the criminal activity that would be going on if I bought a 100 shell card for 105.
ebay bucks certificates will come out on 1/3 which could be used to purchase these gift cards (if the deal is still alive then). Plus, at many of these gas stations using a gift card will give you the lower cash price, while using a credit card will cost you 6 – 10 cents more.
1. Helps meet min. spend on a new CC, and get to spend the money later.
2. Gas: Cash discount in 10 states for using GC. (Ten states—California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oklahoma, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming—and Puerto Rico have laws that allow merchants to give discounts to encourage consumers to use forms of payment other than credit or debit cards)
Also, making a purchase thru the link is making this site a few cents, which is good for all of us.
But yeah, personally, I mostly stay away from GC’s just because I don’t liquidate/sell them, I choose to use them or gift them. Plus, I’m not in one of those states. But I could see the appeal when you can stack discounts.
Texas certainly has a smattering of gas stations with discounts for cash and/or the brand’s own gift cards. Don’t think a law allowing it is needed, stations can set pricing the way they want unless there’s a law blocking the practice.
Maybe. Just what I found online. I have seen very few gas stations that do that, but do recall it happening years ago. And when I noticed, I go elsewhere or pay cash. Caveat emptor.
On a road trip, gift cards work in situations where a credit card may be declined due to a fraud/risk decision. The gift cards also work for in-store purchases, where several cards that reward gasoline purchases only do so for at-the-pump use.
