eBay Will Now Price Match To Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart & More (Only Applies To New eBay Deals)

eBay has announced that they will start price matching the following competitors (note this post contains our eBay affiliate links. Thanks for supporting the site):

  • Amazon.com
  • BestBuy.com
  • Walmart.com
  • HomeDepot.com
  • Target.com
  • Sears.com
  • Wayfair.com
  • Jet.com

Unfortunately this price matching only applies to unopened items on the eBay Deals page. eBay issues you with a coupon for the qualifying purchase if the price match is successful, this must be used towards the purchase of the price match listing.

What’s Covered?

  • The request is from a registered eBay buyer, who is a U.S. resident, is signed into their eBay.com account, and the purchase will be shipped to one of the fifty United States;
  • The eBay buyer requests a price match of a specific item listed on eBay Deals at the time of purchase and before the purchase is completed (but not post-purchase);
  • Both items on eBay and a qualifying Competitor’s website are verified as new condition, identical by a universal product identifier (UPC or brand + manufacturer part number), available and in-stock on both websites by an eBay customer service agent at the time the price-check is conducted by the agent;
  • The item is advertised at a price less than the eBay Deals item;
  • The price difference does not exceed the lesser of $500 or 50% of the item’s advertised price found on a Competitor’s website; and
  • Only one unit per eBay buyer per day is matched.

What Isn’t?

  • Refurbished, used, non-retail packaged products.
  • Competitor prices after applicable rebates, free offers, coupons or specific one-time-only promotions from a Competitor’s website, specific offers based on bundled pricing, volume or lot discounts are applied.
  • eBay items that are eligible for other eBay coupon promotions or offers are not eligible for an eBay Deals Price Match Guarantee. The eBay coupon applied to an eligible price match cannot be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon, nor can it be redeemed for cash.
  • Purchases during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.
  • An error or misprint on a Competitor’s website.
  • Products in the following product categories: gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, coins, paper money, virtual currency, or items generally considered to be “bullion” (for example, gold, silver, and other precious metals in the form of coins, bars, or ingots), real estate, motors (except for parts and accessories).

Our Verdict

This would be huge if it applied to eBay site wide due to eBay bucks, being able to go through a portal and using discounted gift cards for the purchase. Unfortunately it only applies to eBay deals. The way they have the price match set up is a bit weird as well, you request the match before you make the purchase. This could be a major issue with items selling out but at least you will know if your match is successful before you make the purchase.

So, I have to do all that work just so the price matches? I’ll just go to the competitor who is lower and save myself the time and aggravation of dealing with ebay.

when matched with very reputable ebay retailers then this is a huge win. otherwise, its trash. i would rather buy from Amazon at a higher price for their fukn amazing customer service from a buyer protection perspective.

ebay is shit. too many times i get drop shipped BS items from ebay that are fake/used/switched out/etc. not even worth the price match for a fake item. YMMV depending on what you buy but electronics are big for me.

maybe thats just my experience tho…
