Our Verdict
When this offer was first posted, we told everybody to jump on it and whilst the US team didn’t do as well as they did in Vancouver (which would have resulted in 9,500 points) we still think it’s a great deal. Because you need to spend $3,500, you’ll receive a minimum of 30,950 which is enough for $600 in airfares or $300 in statement credit. One other thing we like about this offer is that a number of people have reported being able to downgrade this card to a U.S Bank Cash+ card before the annual fee of $45 kicks in. For those not familiar this card lets you specify you’re own 2 5% cash back categories along with a 2% cash back category.
You can book most airlines with US Bank’s interface, in general if you can book it with citi thank you points, you’ll be able to book it with US Bank. One noticable exception is Southwest airlines.
The only reason not to apply for this card is because you’re waiting for the summer olympics where a similar promotion is usually held, resulting in a lot more medals and thus points. The downside to this is you’ll need to wait and you’ll also potentially lose out on having the U.S Bank Cash+ card for longer. Are you going to apply? Let us know in the comments.
