Frontier: Cancel Existing Booking By 3/25 & Get $50 Additional Voucher

Extended until 3/25

The Offer

Direct link

  • Frontier is offering customers an additional $50 voucher per person if they cancel their existing booking by 11:59pm Mountain Time on March 23, 2020 for flights 3/22/20 and 6/17/20.

The Fine Print

  • This offer: 1) is valid effective March 21, 2020 at 12:45pm MT, 2) cannot be applied to previous cancellations, and 3) ends at March 23, 2020 at 11:59pm Mountain Daylight Savings Time.
  • Offer valid only on bookings made on or before March 20, 2020.
  • Credit for the full amount of the unused ticket will be moved to a credit shell that may be redeemed up to 90 days after cancellation, however travel does not need to be completed within the 90 days.
  • The $50 per person travel voucher:
    • May be redeemed through December 31, 2020
    • Is not available to bookings made through Apple Vacations, bookings made as part of a vacation package, Group travel bookings, itineraries booked with Volaris or including Volaris codeshare flights, frequent flyer redemption bookings, or employee benefit travel
    • Is one-time use
    • May be applicable only to ticket fare

Our Verdict

This is in addition to the credit you get that is equal to the flight cost. Basically Frontier is offering an incentive to avoid having to pay a cash refund. I don’t have any Frontier fares to cancel, but if I did I’d probably take them up on this offer rather than waiting for a cancellation even if I wasn’t sure I’d be able to use the voucher. I like when airlines get creative like this, rather than just trying to screw over consumers by changing terms (United). That being said I completely understand some people are hurting financially at the moment and would prefer to wait for a cash refund.

It’s a one of those ‘too good to be true’ things. I had a return flight scheduled with them on Sunday out of LAS. Got this mail on Saturday morning, so figured out I will try, given the current situation in Vegas. Went to my booking, click on Cancel flight per the instruction they sent me, got an ‘ERROR: Not authorized to change/cancel this flight. A passenger has checked into or has boarded the flight.’ What Frontier does next? Of course cancels the flight, doesn’t even bother to send a cancellation notification (I figured that out myself by checking airport website in advance and booked an OW on United, but there were folks in the airport who showed up for Frontier flight and had no clue they are not flying anywhere).

Anyone had experience submitting claims to Frontier for reimbursement for flight home on other carriers in the event when their next flight is next week or so?

Update on this one:
Got an automated email confirming refund for the return flight and also another email a few hours later with 3 x $50 certificates (I didn’t do anything, Frontier cancelled the flight themselves). Not bad after all – after the refund I essentially paid $50 total for 3 tickets and got a OW flight and $150 in travel credit.

Is anyone else having an issue with Frontier website?
It’s not recognizing my reservation code (I was planning to get on the $50 voucher.)

They likely already cancelled your flight, just ‘forgot’ to tell you about that.

Despite non-essential travel to Mexico is suspended, I have a bunch of friends that are waiting for Frontier to cancel those flights so they get a cash refund instead of a voucher. Flights are in a week, so I hope they cancel. Why hasn’t frontier canceled these flights?

Thanks for the free $50 voucher!!!

I found it worth it, because I paid 16 dollars for a one-way flight in this time range.

[this was well before the major corona fears started]

do not cancel. it is a scam. airline is going under. wait and let them cancel your flight on their own so you get your money back.

Got the same email for flights between Florida. I have a feeling my entire flight will have less than a dozen pax for an a320. I’m holding off for the cash refund to book elsewhere or cancel last minute.

I have this offer, have a flight to Florida in early April. I am not sure what to do. The $50 is good to book until December but my original $300 is only good to book for 90 days after I cancel and I don’t think I will be need to use the credit until March 2021 which is not bookable yet and I don’t think it will be in 90 days. Should I wait until last min to cancel since maybe they will have cancel my flight and have to refund my money? Looking for suggestions, thanks!
