[Expired] Giant Eagle: Save $10 Instantly When Purchasing $150 in Visa Gift Cards

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • In honor of Father’s Day, Giant Eagle is offering $10 instant discount when you buy $150+ in Visa gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 6/13/19 – 6/26/19

Our Verdict

Seems to be available online as well, though GCGalore says online orders won’t necessarily get fulfilled for those not in the area. System also seems to be giving wacky discount amounts, and without limits. I’m doubtful anything will pan out with the online deal, but the in-store deal looks solid for those in the area.

I assume these cost like $5.95? So $4.05 MM plus whatever credit card/fuel points I get?

Don B
Don B

From my experience, Giant Eagle sells $200 Visa Gift Cards with a $6.95 fee. This makes the after discount price $196.95 for a $200 VGC plus fuel perks points. A money making value plus gas savings. Win-Win!

After reading your post, I went back and read the terms…ugggh! I had misread the terms and bought 2 $200 cards! I should have bought one!

TomJ
TomJ

Purchase fee on the $200 is 6.95. So, buying 2, you pay $3.90 in fees. Your cash back CC and the fuel perks make this a profitable deal.

What category does this count as

Boris

Chase coded this as grocery.

CtownBin
CtownBin

Coded as grocery for 5x freedom, even though you bought it online?

vipul

Yes, assuming you are able to liquidate them at 0 cost.

Ric

It worked like a charm! However,
The system only allows one transaction, I tried with different CC and didn’t go through. Thanks for the info.

Anyone know if Giant Eagle sells the variable load VGC’s up to $500 in-store? I’ll be in Ohio in a week and would love to pick a few up!

Don B
Don B

Fixed $200 is the highest value that I have seen in Ohio. I would love variable $500 cards, but that’s not available.

Bret
Bret

They had up to $500 in Northeast OH, but don’t think those get $10 off

Don B

What store has $500 Visa gift cards? I have only ever seen the $500 gift card for certain store/restaurants and never for Visa card.

vipul
vipul

No, I have never seen 500 in GE

Just got a shipment confirmation on an order going to Chicago. No GE’s in IL but there are in IN, that’s probably why mine seems to have gone through clean. Gonna try for another order here soon…

No issues checking out with TX ZIP and address. Received confirmation email. CC shows preauth. So… all I need now is for them to slip the card in the mail. We’ll see…

travelling to an area where Giant Eagle is this coming weekend. Do I need an advantage card for this deal?

Don B
Don B

You do not need a Giant Eagle Advantage Card to receive the $10 discount. But you would not received any fuel perks for gas savings as that is tied to your advantage card.

Don B
Don B

I believe that you do need a Giant Eagle Advantage Card in order to receive the $10 discount. I don’t recall needing to use it in the past, but maybe the rules have changed.

Ordered from NM, one $200 VGC. Just received notification that it has shipped. Description for pending charge is “Giant Eagle internet”. I hope that it’s coding as grocery.

How do you guys liquidate these gift cards?
Seems too much of a hassle for $4 MM.

Nick
Nick

These earn 2x fuel perks?

Nick
Nick

never mind – I was confusing with Kroger

Derek
Derek

Not sure if it’s still working, but the site was taking off $10 per card. So 10x $50 was $450. Plus up to $30 in free gas, Plus CC points/miles (finger crossed for coding as grocery, although doubtful). My 20 cards shipped an hour after order, I am in OH.

In the past, I bought a lot of GC online (2-3k) and they did call to verify my info before shipping that amount, but I got nothing for my sub 1k purchase today.

TomJ
TomJ

When do fuel perks get credited? I didn’t get any for an order yesterday. In store, they always credit immediately.

CtownBin
CtownBin

Did your Fuelperks ever post for the online purchase?

TomJ
TomJ

yeah, once the shipping email came, the points posted.

CtownBin
CtownBin

Did it code as grocery in the end, and which card did you use? Also did you ever get your Fuelperks? Thanks so much 🙂

TomJ
TomJ

I used the Citi double cash but it hasn’t posted. I did get my fuelperks as well. I have 2 BCP’s but didn’t use them on this deal. I am holding them for later. I also used my Chase Unlimited (3%) but it hasn’t posted either.

DB
DB

T&C says $1k maximum per transaction (online) but it seems I can go through having 13*$200 on my cart – anyone tried it yet?

Can some one give the breakdown on how exactly the points works on the deal just moved to the a giant eagle location

i purchased the giftcards ann my receipt says Save 126.0% on Food or 6.30$/Gallon

Total Perks available 3151

TomJ
TomJ

When you go to the grocery, the screen will ask you if you want to get 20% off your grocery order and it will show you the dollar amount of the discount. You choose one way or the other.

When you get gas, it will usually approve something like $3.60 off per gallon. I never spend that amount since I just buy the cheap stuff. With $6 in fuel perks, your fill-up will be free.

Did I answer your question?

Don B
Don B

To add to Tomj’s comments: there are 2 main methods to cash out you fuel perks. You can either redeem for groceries or gas. The grocery savings will max out out at a 20% discount. Giant Eagle recently changed their fuel perks program in March, so I believe that this will take $1.00 in fuel perks. Don’t cash them out this way. If you redeem for a gas savings, you can redeem for up to a free tank of gas. If gas costs $2.50 per gallon, you can redeem $2.50 worth of fuel points for a free tank of gas up to 30 gallons. This is the best method for redeeming points. In my opinion, Giant Eagle has the best fuel savings program in the country and I routinely redeem free gas. Giant Eagle has frequent gift card promotions, so you can rack up free gas quickly.

ay

Can you only redeem it at the Giant Eagle chain of gas stations (I believe they’re called GetGo)?

reidy
reidy

yes

reidy
reidy

Mine is a regular honda civic and max of 11 gallons

if the gas price is 2:60$gallon i can pump a full tank for free (my account shows i have 6.30$/Gallon which i can redeem)

terms tell max upto 30 gallons so will i be loosing the other 19 gallons where i can fill my tank close to two times for free

hope u got my ask

Don B
Don B

Buy gas containers. Giant Eagle sell 5 gallon cans for ~$20 or you can buy the DuraMax Flo n’ Go LE Fluid Transfer Pump and 14-Gallon Rolling Gas Can from Amazon for ~$118 in order to maximize your fuel purchase. I am not sure if you store the gas at your home, so this could be a problem. If you have friends and/or family in the area, you could always give and/or sell some to them.

vipul
vipul

500 perks = 20% off grocery (any size order) or $1 off per gallon (upto 30 gallon fillup). For grocery, 500 perks is the max you can redeem on any order. For gas, you can redeem any amount (making gas totally free). I always use it for grocery since I have an electric car.

Anybody knows what GE online purchases code as?

Grocery for me with Freedom and AMEX BCP.

CtownBin
CtownBin

You did this deal ONLINE, with a Freedom, and you can already see that it coded as grocery and you got the 5x points? Did you get your Fuelperks as well?

bullfrog23414

I purchase from them online frequently. Mine is an historical DP, not for this specific deal.

Is this Eligible At stop n shop?

Don B

Giant Eagle and Stop n Shop are completely unrelated to each other. Perhaps you were thinking about Giant? Giant and Giant Eagle are also completely different companies.
