[Expired] Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s: 2x Fuel Points on Mastercard Gift Cards [8/31-9/6]

This deal has expired, you can view more Giant deals here.

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (ad page 8)

Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular:

  • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards.

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 8/31/18 – 9/6/18 (starts Friday)
  • Must use store card to get and use the points
  • Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
  • “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

Giant/SS has been coming out consistently with nice fuel points deals. I believe they run more of these during the summer driving months; with Labor Day coming, this may be the last one for a while.

While we are limited to getting $1.50 discount from grocery fuel points in most areas, you can bring down the  cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus some other deals, like this Chase Pay deal.

Remember to use a card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

DP:
I bought two different MC GCs from Giant today:

1. With a purple ribbon issued by US Bank without a PIN card which must be registered at prepaidgiftcardbalance.com (this site almost always throws an error and you’ll have to call the 1-888-853-9536 to register via an automated system using your smartphone)

2. A pink card issued by Metabank with a PIN card and registered at mcgift.giftcardmall.com

NEITHER of these can be drained via Bluebird 🙁

Did you go online and create pin for the pink ones Marco? I did that and have drained all of them via bluebird or MO with no issues. The ones that come with a pin should work with no issues. It seems most of the stores now have the pink ones so you have to take the extra time to create a pin for them but it still worked for me.

Thanks for the DP RC
I did create a PIN but had to register via their automated phone system since the website was giving me error.
None of them worked on BB. Maybe I should have waited for sometime before trying to use them on BB or maybe they have flagged my BB accounts ?
Will test with a real Debit card to check. Also haven’t found a place which takes GCs for MOs. Will keep looking as I feel like I’m missing all the MSing fun while people are buying over $6000 worth of GCs from these deals and having no trouble draining them.

Walmart? Giant? Don’t work? Also since they r MasterCard did you hit cancel after swiping and change to debit transaction?

Giant & Acme around me has big signs that says that they don’t accept GCs for MOs. Have not tried at PO.
I did try once at Walmart to buy MOs but got the “….card not not recognized/not a valid payment method” error and now I know why 🙂
Will try to load on Serve via FD.
I’m trying to learn to MS but it’s been a steep learning curve as what works for someone might not work for others !
Thanks a lot for your tips RC 🙂

I just pumped $45 from BP last night, should wait for the post. By the way, I thought that you would always post this kind of deal a few days ahead of time, no?

Use a portal to go to raise to buy a shell GC with their discount code that gives 4%, can liquidate the MCGC or VGC on hand as well, remember we got this staples VGC deal starting on 9/2. buy MCGC from S&S with 2%+CC (Double Cash, Santander Bravo, CCU rewards, BOFA cash rewards), use the S&S card to get $1.5/gallon with 2 cars to max out 20 gallons

It has been quite a few months since the last time FR awarded points for GC purchases in S&S stores by linked CCs.

I had to make a $25 minimum purchase to receive gas rewards points for the Mastercard gift card last time around.

Unfortunately doesn’t include Visa Gift Cards. I’ve had it with all these MCGC promos that can’t be liquidated at Walmart.

Lol, why can’t they? Just did a 5k buy and unload this morning… There’s guides for the mastercards. It’s not that difficult.

Just curious – is there any way I can use fuel perks for anything other than fuel? I have an electric car…

You could give/sell the gas to friends and family at a discount… Idk, they fill up 25 gallons, and give you $25. Giant also let’s you redeem 300 points for 5% off or something like that. But that is a total waste I think, unless you find yourself spending $200+ in groceries, other than that, you’re better off using points for gas. Someone else might know more.

Yep, as soon as you see the little red button pop up on the screen hit it, or hit the red cancel button on the keypad. Then select debit. You have to make sure they enter the $500 after you hit cancel and change to debit, if they enter it before, it will run as credit for $500 and fail.

That’s interesting I don’t think I’ve encountered that

Thanks for the advance alert, as always. And with Jackie Gleason, how sweet it is. (especially for those of us with access to Martin’s — where afaik, there are still no limits on cents off per gallon — up to 25)

Happens we just filled up the family van & tanks (35 gallons worth at Richmond Va Kroger — where they too have no limits on cents off per gallon — unusual perhaps, but it’s been that way for two+ years) This will help keep the largely “free” gas flowing through September… 😉
