Google Chrome To Offer Ability To Create Virtual Credit Cards

According to 9to5google Google Chrome will soon add the ability to create and manage virtual credit cards. Google is working directly with credit card payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express) to add this functionality.

If this converts Amex to Visa / Mastercard, then it would be super useful. Even better would be a debit-card BIN. At a minimum, it should provide a functionality whereby I can provide an expiration date for the card, and the credit card cannot be charged beyond that date under any circumstances.

i’ve been using Eno from CapitalOne, it is amazing! It is a chrome plugin, and can generate a virtual card for each shopping website. You can also set a schedule when card is going to expiry, meaning no further charge can be made beyond that expiry date.

Found this:

Looks like it works with Capital One cards only. Hopefully they expand it to work with all cards.

It seems same functionality as the Eno chrome extension from Capital One.

Looks like that FAQ is outdated, from the linked article:

“For example, you’ll get an individual virtual card on every site if you’re a Capital One member. Visa and Amex will leverage one card for all sites but a different CVV is used every time, though those three (or four) digits will be dynamically filled without the need for manual entry.”

And:

“It’s initially rolling out this summer to the US for Visa, American Express, and all Capital One branded consumer credit cards. Mastercard support is coming “later this year.” An international launch for this capability is planned.”

Great news if it works! I use privacy.com for virtual cards for years now, but they unfortunately work only with checking accounts.

This is Google’s wet dream. Now they’re getting to view your credit card purchase data as well to analyze, package, and sell to advertisers.

They already know what you buy from your gmail account.

Google has always been able to do this, and Google Pay has been around for almost a decade now. There is some angle here for Google, but it’s not selling metadata to advertisers.
