It’s alleged that consumers paid too much for apps and in app purchases from the Google Play store due to monopolized app distribution on some Android devices and in-app billing services. Google has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a $700 million settlement. This is not technically a class action settlement as the action was brought by State Attorneys General as ‘parens patriae’.
Who’s Eligible
If you made a payment through Google Play store or Google Play billing between August 16, 2016 and September 30, 2023 you are eligible.
How Much?
The settlement pool is for $700 million but Google has also agreed to pay $70 million to the State Attorneys General in their sovereign capacities and private lawyers have applied to the court for an award of $85 million in attorneys’ fees and $8.6 million in expenses from the Settlement Fund.
You’ll receive a payment of at least $2, but you may receive more based on how much you paid for apps or in-app content.
How To Claim
The majority of claims and payments will be made automatically. You will receive an e-mail from PayPal or a text from Venmo notifying you of your incoming payment at the email address or mobile phone number associated with your Google Play account.
